So I finally got started on installing my new Gibson Dual exhaust today. I knew when i ordered it that was for a extended cab, but figured/hoped that i could do some trimming to make it fit. BUT it didn't really work that way.. The head pipe from the collector to the muffler is flanged on one end and did not have enough of a straight section on the other end to cut down enough to get the muffler back far enough from the rear axle. Therefore the tailpipes do not fit properly.. BOOO!!! So i left it as is for now, and it sound pretty mean at idle and low rpm's but kind of gross at higher rpm's under load, plus all my exhaust is getting dumped right on my rear diff. So on monadys morning it's on the way to the exhaust shop down the street from work to get the rear section fitted, muffler properly placed and then the single pipe from the collector to the muffler re-bent and cut to fit! Little more messing around then i wanted to do but whatever! And on top of this one of my tips was damaged in shipping so im in the process of trying to get a replacement from either gibson or the retailer. Hopefully it will be finished Monday, besides the tip which im going to make as round as possible until i can get a replacement.

Hi, I am curious as to how you make out with the Gibson Dual Exhaust, I would like to know if it is too loud after you get your pipes on. I have a 09 with the extended cab and am looking at putting on the same system as yours.

Thanks... guessing by how it sounds now, which is a little loud but not too bad it should sound great once i get the rest of the pipes on and its not being dumped straight into the axle. There are a few points in acceleration where it got a little annoying and resonated really bad, but that should all be taken care of with some tailpipes. Hopefully Monday night i will be able to post some pics of the completed setup. And a video of how it sounds!

 

Remind me now why you bought the extended cab version??

 

Correct me if i am wrong but i think that the place of the axle from the rear bumber is the same on a reg cab and a ext cab. Why dont you just shorten the distance from your muffler and your cat to where it would fit normal and just roll from there. But I still dont understand what your saying completely.

Because i got it for a really good deal online, just over $500 cdn. shipped! because it was from a canadian site.. and i knew it would only be that pipe which would/could cause a problem so i decided i would get it anyways and make it work. I just did not anticipate that pipe would have so many bends and not able to cut it down without some proper exhaust tools! just a minor hang up. There is a shop that does custom exhausts right next to my work so Monday morning i will drop it off and they will make short work of it.
Border and shipping fees from the states to canada really suck especially with the current exchange rate! and having this one modded will still most likely be cheaper than getting one from the states and waiting an extra week for it.
And while I have it in there i am going to get a quote done for some custom mid pipes, gotta get rid of some of those cats or at least replace them with high flows.

How much in american is 500Canadian?

You know you can just get a sweet flowmaster or someother muffler and get it put in for super cheap at exhaust shops? Heck you can probably do it yourself if you have some skill.

 

Thats what i planned on doing but i cant cut that pipe down any more to move the muffler further forward because of the bends in it. So i need to bring it in to an exhaust shop to have them either modify that one so it will meet the muffler were it is supposed to hang or make a new piece to replace it... Its not a huge deal, just a little delay! The rear pipes will fit perfectly once the exhaust can be moved to where it is supposed to be.
I just had it mocked up this much and didnt want to pull it off and put the old one back on so i just left it like that for now!

haha, just trying to explain it in detail so ppl dont have to question things! but i do get a little carried away..
500 cdn is 406 usd. shipping and border fees could have pushed $200
but i wanted a dual exhaust and by the time i bought the muffler, pipes(and had them bent and welded), and tips i would be into it for close to that anyways, plus all the running around

 

should have just waited to get the correct kit for your truck. they make different kits for a reason. but back on subject i like my gibson exhaust.

 

I do really like the sound of Gibsons. Which is why i bought it, rather than get an exhaust shop to make some Frankenstein hackjob. As far as waiting to find one for a reg cab. im impatient. Pipes are easily cut and bent (as long as you have the right tools which i didnt).

 

Did you ask the muffler shop what it would run for everything before your ordered.

 

Wasnt really interested in an exhaust shop job, i wanted to know how it would look and sound. I did some research on brands and found out how they all sounded and performed on my truck, and liked this one. Found it for a good price and bought it. I would rather spend the cash on something that i knew i would like, instead of spending less on something im not happy with.

 

Yes good point. But I think you could have asked them to do that exhaust on your truck.

 

It was a bit of an impuse buy, I was looking for one in Canada and found one, and they only had one in stock. So i whipped out the credit card and bought it!
Plus i work at a body shop, anything i could not do myself i could bring to the shop who does our exhaust work and get it done in 10 minutes.

 

Truck is going into the shop tomorrow morning and they are going to make it fit perfectly for me. Plus the company who i bought the exhaust from tole me that i had to send back the whole exhaust in order for them to replace the damaged tip, too late for that! But i emailed Gibson and told them the problem and they are replacing it for me! sweet! Excellent Customer Service! And just for being difficult,, b*tch at autopartsway.ca until they give me a replacement as well! spare tips are good!
