Step Side Bed

ALright well i am so sick of the ford ranger taillights and i want to totally change them out. Now the bed i have on my 2000 ranger isnt metal but some kind of plastic and i really want to put L.E.D 12'' bulbs where the taillights are now. WEll i know i need to get fillers to fill in the old taillight holes so i can fit the L.E.Ds. But my bed is plastic and i cant weld in the fillers, but i did hear that the old ford rangers like the 93-97 rangers had metal step side beds. And if they dont make a metal step side then i will just have to go crazy with the bondo.... does anyone have a clue?

ok, all 93+ stepside beds are a fiberglass composite, not Metal

so you can make a fiberglass filler panel and fiberglassing it smooth

ill warn you now, it is NOT an easy task, and requires ALOT of work

Either one wouldnt be too hard really....and you can make fiberglass ones, just get the metal ones and cover it in foil, lay layers of fiberglass over it...then sell the metal ones to someone with a metal bed....but if your not good with fiberglass then i would leave it to the professionals...

i work at a body shop so i mess with bondo, fiberglass etc. i just thought it would be easier if i found a metal step side bed so all i had to do would be to weld, smooth, bondo, prime, then paint

exactly metal would be 10x easier, but since you have fiberglass just make some and mold it in, just make sure you got your wires hanging out so your not screwed...

lol true that, i was also thinking just go to a junk yard and get a styleside bed bc thats metal but then it would loose the flareside look, i guess i'll do the extreme and work with fiberglass :(

haha, i was just gonna say... if you're gonna be shopping for a new bed anyway, take a look at the styleside.

IMO, it looks better, especially on a dropped truck, the smoother look is superb.

A wise man once said:
"I like my trucks like i like my women, clean shaven."

oh, and good luck with your project
