for the 5 spd trucks do u need the hsift extension with the body lift? or is there a way to get around it? also if u do need it where can i buy just the extension or how can i make one? thanks

I cut the hole bigger just to get hme from where i had the body lift done
. then i ordered the extension.Lemme know if u still need as i think i have a extra.

guess i don't understand why you would need it. the shifter is so high in the first place, i'd love to have it shorter. it sticks up to the radio as it is.

 

its the angle it becomes with the body lift and yes it will work on your shifter...

 

eather your a midget or want to lean over to shift... i know my back wouldnt want it to be lower and actually i like it that high to the radio can keep your hand on the shifter to change the radio on 1 3 5 and on 2 4 its at the right hight to rest your hand on it while your arm is on the arm rest...

 

i'm 6'5" and i feel like i'm driving some chopper with handle bars a mile high or a rat rod with the shifter through the roof. my arms are plenty long enough to handle a shorter shifter.

because when you shift after a body lift, it will hit the floor pan in some of the gears not allowing it to fully go into gear.....that is if you dont use the shifter extention...

 

ahh, makes sense. i've seen that with other trucks. just didn't know that was the issue with the ranger. some trucks don't have the clearance issue, they just offer it to give you the shifter length back.
sounds like a good job for the dremel. i'd much rather notch the opening than add the extension.

 

I took the front two bolts out of the plastic shifter surround out after I did the body lift. this way, the whole surround /boot comes up when you are in 2nd/4th gear, but you can at least get into all the gears. I also trimmed a little out of the back end of the plastic surround piece with a dremel. its not pretty, but it works perfect and was free.

 

not only can u not keep it in 2nd, 4th and reverse normally..

the console also doesn't fit back in... the shifter is too far towards the seat. and if u want the console, the cut holders and the sound deadening that the boot affords then u want it lifted, (in my whole experience)

the day of the lift i took a die grinder to the sheet metal and consequently the carpet and that neoprene crap around the shifter
