ahh, makes sense. i've seen that with other trucks. just didn't know that was the issue with the ranger. some trucks don't have the clearance issue, they just offer it to give you the shifter length back.
sounds like a good job for the dremel. i'd much rather notch the opening than add the extension.

I took the front two bolts out of the plastic shifter surround out after I did the body lift. this way, the whole surround /boot comes up when you are in 2nd/4th gear, but you can at least get into all the gears. I also trimmed a little out of the back end of the plastic surround piece with a dremel. its not pretty, but it works perfect and was free.

not only can u not keep it in 2nd, 4th and reverse normally..
the console also doesn't fit back in... the shifter is too far towards the seat. and if u want the console, the cut holders and the sound deadening that the boot affords then u want it lifted, (in my whole experience)
the day of the lift i took a die grinder to the sheet metal and consequently the carpet and that neoprene crap around the shifter
>i lived with it for a while, then made my own completely custom shifter..just using the original piece that attaches to the tranny...
