HELP MY PARENTS WANT TO CASH FOR CLUNKERS MY TRUCK
#26
Well that's why they are going to sell the van and give you the money. You may have paid part of of but I'm sure they paid more for the truck so technically its theirs.
Get the Probe running then swap in a Exploder 8.8 with disc brakes and a manual case.

The truck doesn't even need to run to qualify. You can stuff a 7.5 under with out working brakes and they wont care.
Either way we slice it this cash for clunkers will get another 2bill. Someone might as well benefit from it.
I was really tempted to trade in the 95 explorer of my moms and get a new focus. A stealership here is selling them for 139 a month with a clunker trade.

Who the hell are you to tell him 3 cars is to many. If someone wants 3 cars its no ones business but their own.
Downey, I thinks its a pretty crappy situation for you man. I paid for my Ranger but it too was in my dads name. I would've been very upset if he'd wanted to do something like this.

I guess I see it differently. If he likes the truck it doesn't matter if its a heap. You cant put a price on sentimental possessions.

but i know there will be another one but it would be different if it was getting traded in and not getting crushed i just hate the fact that all my hard work is getting destroyed

If it were me i would disassemble the whole drive train and say it will take a few weeks to get it running and just stall until the hole thing blows over and the gov stops killing cars

Cam - That sucks man but I'm a little lost... who paid for it? It sounds like he did but then you mentioned you paid part? And honestly, if it means so much to you how come you haven't bothered to put it in your name? I do think 3 cars at 19 is too much but it's not my problem so congrats on having more than most people I know!

I would classify your truck as the kind of vehicle that WOULD be a 'clunker' IMO. Your vehicle is what the bill was designed for IMO....rusted out piles of junk that chug the fuel. But you can't put a price on sentimental value.
But wait a second...
Dad bought it...it's in his name...yet you paid for part of it.? How come your're not on the title? We're missing some info here... If it's anything like how I got my very first car at 14, dad paid up front, I paid him back over time, during that time it was considered 'mine'. I think you've got it pretty damn good...parent's bought you a brand new Focus that you don't put any money towards. I'd give up the rust bukit of a truck that there's millions of them out there with not rust issues that you can start over on, as a thanks to the parents for giving you a reliable, new piece of transportation to use. At 18, I had 3 vehicles.....but one was my collectors truck, one was a broke down toyota, and one was the newly aquired, dad cosigned it, 2001 Ranger. I thought you got rid of the probe for the Ranger? Why not let the parents take advantage of this bill, because as I see it, it's the only reason why this bill works....crapped, rusted out 15yr old vehicle being traded in for $4500 when you sure as hell can't sell it for even $3000.
Again...I'm looking at this for what it is, on paper, not knowing your emotional attachment to the vehicle.
But wait a second...

I dunno Cam.... It kinda sounds to me like your truck wasn't a priority until the probe died which isn't necessarily a bad thing but kinda makes you SOL... I think I'd try to cut a deal with your dad and get the title swapped ASAP if the trucks really that important...
I can definately related on loving a vehicle that everyone hates so I hope it works out for you!
BTW you name on the title shouldn't affect insurance 'cause you're still INSURED on the vehicle, your name on the title or not...
