The ranger may have taken its last trip

I think the ranger's done.. I'm sick of the piece.

blew the head gasket yesterday.. i managed to limp it home.

the trans is going out.
needs a clutch
needs another slave
needs major work done to the front end..
put a crack in my 9" housing

but by all means if you want it.. you can buy it.

My buddy said you can get $4500 towards a new vehicle if your trading in a truck so i need to read into that and figure out exactly whats up. If it will work out how i want it to, I may end up with a TJ, LJ or JK

The worst part was, i didnt even get to go wheelin.. I blew it up on the lake bed Saturday.. This is as close as we got to wheelin, i did this today after we fixed it. It was the most hard core body damage i have to date ha, my right rear tire got hung behind that big rock sliding me towards it and forcing me to back out.

I dont know if i can really watch it go so easily.. I have soooo many memories in this truck, and people loved seeing something different on the trail. I just dont like how i built it being all stupid and building on such a low budget cutting corners. Its got an ungodly amount of money in it for me to just let go, but its time to get something more reliable to wheel and drive, something thats not such a piece of ****... but at the same time i dont want to see it go :/ FCK!!!

I can almost guarantee it would be cheaper to buy a new engine/trans than fixing that ****.

Then swap in a 5.0 and a new trans and be done with it. I know thats not something that just happens over night. Sucks to hear that you may be getting rid of it.

You could always pick up a cheap old 2wd to beat around in until you get this one fixed.

meh

i really dont want to deal with all the ****.. I need to redo my suspension, need a new axle, need to redo my steering. I kinda just want to start on a clean slate.

The bill says it has to be a new car, so i guess if i can get the go ahead I'm gonna look around at JKs.. I don't know if i want a Rubicon or not.. if i get one the stickers are coming off.

Edit, a JK gets a "combined" mileage of 16, the ranger gets "16.1" even though ALL of us know that's complete bull ****. soo maybe a jk is out of the question, a half ton silverado may be out too since its lower. I know a salesman at a dealership so i'm gonna go talk to him and see whats up.

I think thats the best thing to do Matt. Get a beater car. Who cares what it is, or how it looks, use that as your DD. DD and wheelin rigs never mix, you've just proven that.

Q: What will happen to the car I trade in?

A: The car will be sent to the salvage yard. Some parts may be kept but the engine and drive-train will be crushed.

damn, those ****ers are brutal!

Your at the point in you wheeling that you need to keep this one dedicated for off roading and get a daily driver.

You really think you won't break parts if you bought a new ride? You'll be in the same situation a year from now only you will have a monthly payment added to the repair costs.

Your truck has no value for a trade in. Park it, but don't get rid of it.

Don't trash your truck. Keep it. Its a work of art. Buy a civic and drive that around. Keep your truck to tear up the rocks. put a 302 in it and keep it running.

I'm just as pissed with my ranger right now as well. I've had issues with this 04 before I lifted it and still have issues with it lifted (a duh statement huh). My 93 wasn't this unreliable.

In the last 3 months I've blown my RCD bilsteins (and I haven't even wheeled any since labor day weekend) coilovers, replaced both hub assemblies, I think my front pinion yoke is going, I have a cyclic hum coming from the front that is highly accentuated at 70-80mph with the front driveshaft on, and my CVs are popping.

On order are MOOG UCAs, outer TREs and LBJs. And if I can find somewhere reliable OTHER that the stealership I need to order both CV halfshafts. Tomorrow the fox c/os get ordered and some new hypercoils.

AND to make this all worse, I put my 2 weeks notice into work on May 16th. I've been jobless since May 30th. I'm currently applied to a biological consulting firm, Sandia National Labs, and PetSmart (temp as Sandia can take up to 6 months before I'm employed if I get the job). I owe my mom 1455 for my passenger side hub that I replaced last week after it blew and cuased my rotor to eat into my brakes and caliper bracket, plus I owe her another 850 from when my driver's sisde hub went a few months back.

WTF is with these newer rangers?! As I said, my 93 was reliable. I got it at 127k, had the original clutch go at 154k and 5th gear synchro at 158k. Those were the ONLY issues with it until a 16 y.o. kid blew a stop sign at 172k.

1500 bucks for a hub? you got raped my friend.

If you want to start cutting costs down, learn how to wrench. Either that or stop wheelin.

The drive shaft is causing the noise, either get one from superlift, or go get one custom made.

1400 for hub, new caliper bracket, new rotor, new front and rear brakes, and my rear driver's side seal between axle and drum was leaking. The part that sucks about the rear drum leak was I just put royal purple into the rear not even 10k miles ago. What a f^%king waste!

Oh and I have new u-joints and a freshly greased rear DS slip yoke from what I was trying to diagnose a clunk I was getting when braking. Clunk is still there at times.

My gf thinks I got a pre/post-holiday or Monday/Friday built ranger with the amount of crap I've had go wrong with it. The part that really pisses me off is that it never fails, in the 2.5 years we've been dating EVERY time I go up to her parents' place I have something going wrong or just gone wrong and replaced on my truck. The crappier part, her father and grandfather are avid GM/chevy guys with exception to the92 or 93 RX7 her dad owns and the jeep her grandfather owns.
