Icon6 Buying process for a new FX4

Hey there!
I'm new to the site but I've been looking at hundreds of posts here for the last week or so getting to know some of the people/rides by their posts.

I've been looking for anyone who recently bought new trucks that had to be built at the factory.

I've been in contact with 5 dealerships now (Galpin, Power Valencia, Pasadena, AV Ford, and Kieff & Sons) and none of them have FX4 in or any other 4x4 models.
It actually looks like there aren't any new FX4s on any lot in CA.

Every time I talk to a sales person they try pushing an F150 on me!
Or my favorite comment from Galpin,
"We don't have any 4x4s available right now, but we do have a lot of rangers in stock with a really good 4x4 look."

So, has anyone had a truck built and then taken delivery?
How long did the process take and how painful was it?

Any other advice?

Thanks in advance,
-Caleb

Well, I'm in Canada but......

I ordered my 07 cuz I couldn't find exactly what I wanted on the lot. It was easy for me, I just told them what I wanted and they entered it into the computer and sent the order off. They told me 8-10 weeks for delivery. I think it was about 8.5 weeks. From there it is no different from purchasing a vehicle. If the dealer won't order what you want, tell them you are going elsewhere and do so. Hope this helps

I ordered my 08. Took exactly 7 weeks from the order day to driving it out.
FX4's are hard to find, my dealer (Sunrise Ford in Fontana) ordered another one. Its a stripped down black Auto FX4 w/o any options. Red cloth seats.

Right now is about the time to start to order the 09's i believe. Might be more beneficial to you to wait a few months and order an 09(if there is a fx4 for 09 that is).

I went on-line and built the truck I wanted and took the print-out into my local dealer. He entered the details into his computer to see if there was a truck in the area that had the options I wanted, but no luck. So we ordered a factory-built one, he guessed a delivery on 8-10 weeks, it was pretty close to 8 weeks. Ordered an '08 near the beginning of Aug/07, arrived end of Sept/07.

same. i pretty much knew what i wanted. there were two that were close but the colour was off. one was grey (second choice) and one was black (third choice). they were up near quebec/ottawa. if i chose one of those, i would have had it the next week. since i chose to have mine built, the dealer said 8-10 weeks also. i had it a month later (ordered it end of feb, came in end of march). my sales guy said he would try and push it through since it was an order and not just a random truck.

if the dealer really wants to make a sale, he'll order what you want. the only reason he was pushing the f-150s is they are not selling due to gas. they have dropped down in price to the point where a fullsize with the right options can be had cheaper then a ranger with more options.

good luck. like i said, if they want your money. they will do what ever it takes to get it.
