Hauling 800lbs Phoenix to Sacramento!
My son has a 2000 Ford Ranger with 145,000 miles. He wants to transport an 800 pound load from Phoenix to Sacramento and back, 1,450 miles roundtrip. I'm concerned that this will cause stress to the vehicle and may even result in him not having a vehicle as he's a student and doesn't have money for significant repairs. He still listens to his mom (even though he doesn't have to) so I need some advice from Ranger experts as soon as possible.

As far as towing, it shouldn't be a problem since most of the weight should be on the trailer. The only issue I see with the weight in the bed is that the suspension will hate it and it will sag the rear pretty low. But a trailer will probably get more wind resistance and lower mpg.
Use the axle code on the driver door sticker and search a axle decoder on google for rangers. Should take you to therangerstation and you'll find out.
