problem with door locks

My door locks are screwed... keyfob does nothing at all except turn on the interior dome light. The inside doorlocks make a noise like they're trying to lock and unlock but the lock/unlock indicator barely budges and never locks or anything. Anyone had the same problem or know how to fix or replace?

wow, me too, they (it?) try to push or pull the lock pins but just dont get it, but with my locks, the key is now having trouble opening the door(nothing does)keyless, door switches). i have to jiggle the hell out of it for a little bit. i talked to a shop guy and he looked at what it was doing and said that id have to start paying $150 a door to replace actuators (i think thats what he was trying to explain) as a "shot in the dark" kinda deal. so i told him to go suck it and im not so lazy yet to go to the stealership yet. long story short my trucks broke that way too.

itz the actuators. I replaced mine already. I bought them online from 1st ford parts for about 80 bucks. Install wasn't too bad couple torx bolts and remove the lock rods take the whole mechanism out and replace the actuators.

i forgot that locking and unlocking with the key takes some wiggling around to get it to turn (thanks for mentioning that otterboy).... does anyone know if the current models use the same door components or what explorers use the same parts??

I also have a 2000 and sometimes both mine do that same thing. But most of the time its just the passanger door. Im going to the junk yard to find a few small parts. And im try to find one with power locks and get the accuators. And see if they work. Because the guy at the junk yard here said $20 a peice. So you cant really go wrong.

Both of mine did it. Swapped em out and it worked like a charm. That was almost 2 years ago now my drivers side button doesn't wanna work all the time. Passeneger side button works well and so does the keyless so I think I might have a bad switch now. Oh yeah my truck is a 2000 too.

For the "jiggling key" problem, I had the same thing on my 98. Stuck the key in, and it wouldn't turn at all. Squirted some WD 40 inside the keyhole, and now it works like a charm. For the power locks, you need new lock actuators. This happened in my Mustang, wasn't too hard to replace. Took about 45 minutes to do.

FORD has crap for actuators, I had to replace my F-150's after 3 years & I'm sure I'm in for the same thing on the Ranger.

you could also get some better replacement actuators this time around, instead of the crap ford ones, that way you wont have to deal with it again for a long time

I had the same problem and did the same thing on my 98, but after about 2-3 weeks it started "getting stuck" again. Its kinda wierd, but it only seems like it does it when its cold???
