Whats the stuff you seal the sender threads called?
How many threads do you put it on?
How much transmission fluid is going to drain out when I do the install?
I have 1qt on hand do I need more?
Just picked up an autometer 3357 transmission temp gauge.
And a single pillar pod.

 

Are you talking about the pipe sealant, comes in two different forms. One is a thick liquid and the other is the tape, both are white.

 

I know what I would use on my shower pipe.. just asking what I use on the threads
of a transmission temp sensor.. and how many threads do I put it on.
I'm guessing not to many or it would get into the fluid?

Teflon paste will work, you can put it on all the threads if you want. Its not going to hurt anything just dont get any in the end with the hole for your sensor.

Maybe I'll hit summit again tomorrow for that.
I'm debating getting a dual pod.. but I dont know what I would use the second for.

A good choice for the second guage would be a water temp, oil pressure or oil temp. The factory guages are simply garbage, so any of those would be nice to have.

 

you shouldnt loose any fluid if the tranny is cool, i did mine and didnt loose but a drop.

 

Sweet, I guess the 1qt is enough then.. if not well I can make a run in the
beater car for it.
Teflon tape.. thats the stuff that costs 20cents a roll and you seal
the shower head with it? (i have 10 rolls around here somewhere)\
Oh and I sealed my air compressor fittings with it too.

yep... i wouldnt wast your money on the Qt of tranny fluid... take that 2 bucks and get to dbl cheese from mcdees when your done... you want lose more than about a thimble full of fluid...

 

i was told not to use the tape, i got the liquid version of it.

 

Alright I know this is a really old thread so I apologize but thats what happens when you use search. haha

Anyway I installed mine today and I used the tape. I drove the truck about 100 miles and it leaks. I made about 2 passes with the tape and then screwed it in by hand till it stopped then did a tiny bump with a wrench.

I have to fix it tomorrow so any ideas to fix it. more tape? different Teflon sealant or what?

The tape is a lubricant not a sealant.

Sounds like you didn't tighten it enough.

 

Try the paste.
