Well to be clear, I think most are ugly and would never buy one with a 4 foot bed, but they are modern designs with turbo diesels. I think the ugliest of all is the US Tacoma, the Hilux is much better.
I would even commit treason and buy the ugly *** colorado when it gets here if they drop a diesel in it.

Yeah Ford really screwed that up. I understand why they didn't bring the Global Ranger here, it would be more expensive than an F150. All they had to do was update ours like the existing Latin American Ranger and drop in a diesel/ecoboost/3.7 V6. 30+mpg for under $30,000. They would sell a bunch and be a lot closer to reaching the new CAFE standards.

I think there's also a limit on how NEW the vehicle is. I think that it's easier to import a vehicle that is say, 10 years old that it is a showroom model.
*On another note, since it was posted, yes we definitely need diesel crew cab rangers here like in south america.

No its much harder than that. You have to import directly to an approved modifier that may or may not be able to make it meet US emissions and crash standards. While it is technically a no-no you could grab a diesel powertrain from a junkyard, unless you live in an emissions state.
For fun I just looked at new Mexican Rangers. 2.3 gas 4-cyl. with a crew cab and neutered bed is the only flavor they currently sell. Prices are good though.

I read it. If you are talking about a nanny state of california OHV sticker it still requires plenty of paperwork that you would not have. I hope you can do it but would not be simple, although it would have been in other states.
