So I went offroading this weekend with my buddie's jeep and my cousin's f150. WHile I prefer the f-150, the jeep was extremely handy and able to squeeze through places the truck was unable to go. It also seemed like you could beat the tar out of it, and there doesn't seem to be much to break on it.
I know this seems like a silly idea going on a ranger forum and ask them how a ranger would compare, but I really like the ideal of an offroad truck or jeep, and was wondering how the two would compare.

 

a jeep will out perform a ranger...

 

ya i went wheeling with a jeep once it did very well and i think my next vehicle might be a jeep.

 

depends on the jeep.

yj,tj etc is going to outperform a ranger no doubt.

any jeep will outperform an F150, because, well they're huge.

but as far as xj's and z/wj's go, they are about on par with a ranger. but less ground clearance from what i've seen.

my friend has a 3" lift on his XJ and had to cut fenders to fit 32's, and he now sits about as high as my ranger on 33's.

but if built right, heeps are awesome.

i personally want an XJ with a nice long arm kit. woweeweewoo

 

jeep = obsolete suspension LOL
but yeah they're good cars and the 4WD on those is great

 

more like proven suspension.

 

yeah anyway.. stock jeep will outperform any ranger stock.

supensons for jeeps i belive are much cheaper than a rangers one... for starting lifting a ranger weights alot more than a jeep. plus jeeps are always fun to drive :P.

my brother built a 71 yota landcruiser jeep.... lol thats a beautiful car :P and and that one can get to a few extra paces.. plus ground clearence is much better

 

I think there are better things out there for trail rigs than Jeeps... unless you want to drive it on the highway and just LOOK like you're a capable off-roader :biggrin

The limits of a Jeep are about on par with that of a Ranger. Those D30s aren't any stronger than the Ranger front CV joints!

 

I'd rather have something with a shorter wheelbase like a Jeep for offroading. I need the bed though.

I don't think they ever made a reg. cab Ranger with the 4.0. At least not the SOHC 4.0.

The only reg cab 4x4s I've seen (and they are rare!) have had a 3.0L.

They did make a SOHC 4.0 regular cab truck. Rare to find though. I beliveve 02 and 03 are the only years. Not sure.

I bought my Ranger at a Yota lot. I wasn't looking for a Ranger.

That would be sweet. My cousin had one but it was 2wd. I also like the Gladiators like in the movie Tremors. Like this but no crappy shell and a different color:

 

if it's only for and offroader toy i would buy a jeep only because they start with solid axles and they are cheaper to lift than a ranger.

 

I would make it a dual purpose rig. I have also always liked the 2000ish Cherokee Classics as well. Now I'm looking at Jeeps. LOL

The Ranger was cheap so that's why I got it. The Ford dealer across the street wanted more money for the same year Ranger with less options and more miles.

i ended up with mine because they wanted more for a 4x4 colorado thats a year newer then my truck with a 4 cyl and manual windows and locks.
mine had 7k miles on it when i got it, pretty much fully loaded. for less then the chevy. haha

but back on topic of jeeps, i will buy on for sure when i have the money. cheap to come by, parts are in excess, and cheap, and lifts are cheap as well.

 

For the person who wants to mod their vehicle..jeeps have ALOT more aftermarket parts available.
