How to remove tail gate

how do I remove my tail gate on my truck? id like unblocked access to the bottom part of the bed, i was thinking of adding red 3M reflective tape to it to give people more to aim for when they tailgate.... but, anyways, how do I take the tail gate off?

put at a 45 degree angle and pull up and one side will slide out and then pull it to that side and the other will then come out

but first take off the cables

Why don't ya look at your tailgate before you ask us? Im not being a dick, its painfully easy dude. Slides out and has those two latches which are easy to take off.

like others have said, just disconnect the cables and tilt the tailgate at an angle and it slides right out- kinda sad really as it seems SO easy to steal.

the passanger side is sloted the driver is closed. un hook the straps from the bed side. put at about half way down maybe less pull the passanger side out towards you and then pull the tailgate towards the passanger side and it will pop off, becareful it can get away from you really fast and you can dent/scratch the tail gate or bed side...

I guess it was crappy luck you looked at the wrong side. Easy as Zach said.

Holy hell, my 79 ford 150 tailgate worked the same way my ranger does. Ford's been using the design for over 30 years. Welcome to the 21st century. (not to sound like a d1ck either)

Mine was so easy to get off I put zipties on the open hinge to prevent someone to unknowingly try to open it and it coming off and being damaged or damaging my truck.

Mine kept detaching itself whenever I was closing it. I guess the angle was just perfect each time. I had to re-teach myself to close it differently or else it would pop off. If this hadn't happened, I would probably be asking how to remove it too.

Yes, the thing is heavy and cumbersome, so don't rush it. A careless moment could mean scratches or serious dents.

3M tape? Are you doing something like this?

Yes. only 3m is easier and cheaper.. I did take it off yesterday, and i scatchx'ed it 2x and waxed it twice, and now, its like a mirror like finish. and for those of you "know it alls" i never been around pick ups too much, we have REAL trucks around here to play with, not corny pick ups so there.

if its a "corny pick-ups" or "real truck" --- they all have the same type of tailgate... Mr. Know-it-all. any "real man" or in my case WO-man, would have know that.

Actually your not quite right. Pickups have tailgates. Trucks have endgates. Technical terms for a Ranger is a Small Truck. I think pickup truck is a term given to these vehicles requireing Class D license because anybody can pick-it-up and drive. Unlike the real trucks where you need a Class C, B or A to drive. That is what I think FMD is refering to, but I don't know how big his real trucks are compared to what I drive on the farm.

ok MOST trucks... like ford for instance... be it a ranger, F150, F250, F350 are pretty much considered a pick up. but i think he was saying :

ranger is to corny pick up; as
f250 (for instances only) is to real truck.

if im not mistaken...

Depends on who you talk to. I grew up in the suburbs but most of my family are farmers. If you say, "I have to get something out of my truck" They look at you and say, "When'd you get your CDL?" My Grandpa set me straight years ago. A Truck is One-ton or bigger, and has Dual Rear wheels. Anything else is a Pickup. Now this is more of a country Thing, but for a good portion of the country it's true. Kinda Like how in South Dakota we Call Sharptail Grouse Prairie Chickens. They aren't Prairie chickens, but that is the terminology that was adopted.

Para phrasing smokey and the bandit- "How Dumb someone is, depends on just what part of the united states they are standing in"
