How to tell if I have

a limited slip FRONT differential on my truck?

The reason I ask is because I will be replacing fluid in the diff and I need to know if it is OPEN diff or LIMITED SLIP, if it is limited slip it will have clutches and that calls for the use of friction modifier from ford, if it is an open diff there will be no clutches and the friction modifier will be useless.

I have attached a video that shows my front tires spinning and at or about 104/105 in the video you can see the left front start to grab and spin at the same time as the right front, just not as fast because it has better traction on the left, anyways I was told there is nothing on my particular year truck that I could just look at, as in a sticker or differential cover. Thanks

Also last winter I parked on an icy hill and put it in reverse and ALL 4 wheels were spinning at the same time, I actually was on an incline just steep enough to no move but just sit there while ALL 4 tires spun in reverse, I actually leaned wayyyyyyy out and looked under my truck to see the tires spinning . If I had an OPEN diff wouldn't just ( 1 ) of my front tires have been spinning???

Here is the VIDEO LINK for larger video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fk5tR...e=channel_page

Unless someone put something in that front diff, I don't believe any ranger came with any sort of traction aid in the front....all open.

X2.

It is entirely possible for a truck with an open diff (front or rear) to spin the tires on both sides.

...especially if there is no load on the vehicle. jack up the truck and spin the tires. they both will move.

it wouldnt hurt putting that additive in any gears open or lsd. alot of gear oils just put it in anyway. all of the service stations should use a gear oil that has it in it anyways to be safe.

but as said no rangers had any front lsd.
