Little help wireing up a cargo light

Whats up guys.. Just picked up an 03 ranger 4x4 4.0 and I am loving the truck! I wanted to do a few mods and I was reading about adding a rear cargo light/3rd break light combo unit and I have a questions. I picked up a combo unit off 3rd break light/ cargo light and I could some help wiring it up. My truck came stock with just a 3rd break light so I took it off and I hoped it would be a direct plug in but I guess not. I tried to tap into the wires that I thought were for the Dome light (the two wires that I can access from the mounting home for the 3rd break light Black/pink and yellow/red?? I know the cargo light is black with red so i thought I could just hook it up and it work.. what am I doing wrong. I searched but I couldn't find anything.

Black/Pink is the hot for the cargo lights in the truck harness - your 03 may or may not have this wire since the optional cargo lights were discontinued sometime in the 2003MY. The brake light hot wire is dark green. Ground is black and common for both.

The dome light wire is black/blue but you'd have to extend it to reach the CHMSL assembly.

I don't know what you have for a CHMSL but the ones I've seen for Rangers use a black/pink to power the 2 outer bulbs for the cargos. The cargo bulbs use the same black ground as the brake light bulb in the center.

The easiest hookup is to just tap the black/light blue at the dome light and extend that wire back to power the cargos. Since they would be on the domelight circuit, they would illuminate using the dimmer wheel switch or whenever a door is opened.
