Winter Truck Weight

Hey guys, first winter having my 09 FX4 and I was wondering how much weight I should throw in the back for added traction. For the winter my trucks running on a set of BFGoodrich winter slaloms.

I usually add at least 200, but my truck is even lighter than most Rangers with my fiberglass bed.

When I first bought the truck I threw 360lbs back there. Last winter pretty much the whole winter I went without the weight until I headed out to snowboard after a big winter storm. lol I didnt want to take the chance.

I had like 75 lbs back there last winter, but since you are 4x4 you really dont need any weight.

i just use my 4wd.. like said already i paid for that sum ***** imma gonna use it!!! haha.. i'll throw 3-4 sandbags in the back but thats it.. my truck usually stays in 4wd all winter because i cant really go too far in 2wd. hell i need 4wd to get outta my driveway and its flat!!!

most times you wont need the weight. i have the electronic 4wd button ****, and if i put it in 4wd and drive, and i want to go back to 2wd, i hit the button, but the 4wd parts are still spinning so i have to back up a few feet, but i usually just hit the button if i want 2wd then its easier to get back to 4wd less clunking!!

Last winter we got some pretty decent storms here and I had no added weight in the back of my truck, only thing is my cap. My truck did just fine, no problems getting stuck.

Every year this gets covered in about 20 different threads. The search tool should be everyone's first resort. I really do think that every 3rd thread started in here has been answered before.

....anyway. Having 4wd is good, but that's not going to keep your *** end from kicking out. Everyone does their own thing for winter prep, but for my truck (being 2wd and fiberglass bed sides) I have no weight to the back end except the rear axle and spare tire. So I add a few hundred pounds to keep those rear tires planted for the winter months.

Thanks guys for all the info. I figure that I'll just toss a couple of sand bags in the back to be safe. Im so tempted this winter to just find some snow covered trails in the bush to go wheelin thru, good idea? lol.
Hey heres one for you northerners, whats the deepest amount of snow you have driven thru?

I just use my 4x4, when i go to the mountains the bed us usually packed full of snowboards and gear anyways which adds a few hundred pounds. If i were to put some weight back there i would get one of those water bags that you fill up and let freeze flat to the bottom of the bed, takes up less space.
I have had that poor truck stuck in the snow more than once, its gotten through some pretty deep snow but in over it's head a few times. If my hard drive didnt crash last year I could show you some funny pictures!
