Makin a fuel tank..

I am wanting to make a 20 gallon alum tank to put in my bed..

ive been talkin to a friend of mine and was explainin it to me and im startin to get the process of it down..

i got a sending unit out of a ranger already so i can use that instead of mine thats in my tank now..

i got my demensions that i want it..what do i need to get or do now..

i was told that i need to hook a vent in it..and somehow get that lil tank that is above the spair tire thing that has the charcoal in it..then extend wires to the new tank?

or am i way out of my mind and should just buy one..

keep this in mind i can get a sheet of 1/8" alum for near nothin or even free

i can get my hands on press brakes and i can weld alum with the TIG like its the crack of dawn..i got the tools i just need the brains..so people of RF..back me up on this one and lets get this thing rollin

that would be the EVAP canister..its part of the emissions i believe, and I think it's purpose is to keep the fuel vapors to a minimum

the charcoal canister is where the fuel fumes go on hot summer days. Otherwise back in the day those fumes could jus be vented to the air or pressure would build inside the tank.

you should buy one....a gas tank has to have a certain pressure inside it........it isn't as easy as it looks.........i hate to be a stickler but the DOT thing comes into play.....that is one of the serious things that they will stick it to you with......

Youd be better, and safer to just buy a fuel safe Fuel cell. Look them up, they will let you know what you need

yeah, but they put any prices on the website... I guess someone will have to call them up and post the prices. I will need a fuel cell soon.

i know the tank has to be properly sealed and coated then cured and all that, but i have no idea what goes into getting it all built & all that.

and if you can weld aluminum well, my hat goes off to you. took me a ton of tries in class just to get a decent looking bead down. stupid oxidation.
