Is Making a 4x2 a 4x4 Possible??
I have a 2007 ford ranger that is 4x2 and I was wondering if I bought a parts/junk car that was a 4x4 (obviously with the drivetrain intact), could they be swapped out? Is it impractical/really hard? Time-consuming? maybe expensive if I hired someone to do it? Thanks

If yours is an Edge, everything from a 4x4 donor would be a swap in. If its not an Edge, the only thing you could do is swap your body & drivetrain onto/into the 4x4 chassis, as long as you have the same motor so the trans & transfer case could be swapped also. 2wd & 4wd trans are different along with 3.0L & 4.0L will not interchange.
As far as having a shop do it..........I can tell ya around here it costs $1200 for just labor, you supply the parts/trucks.
Look at my 98 Thunderbolt build in my sig VVV, as I did just that last July except I did the 5.0L Expo swap too.

So it would kind of be more like repairing/replacing parts on the 4x4 with my truck rather that using the 4x4 on my truck?
Thanks!
Also, considering I don't know much about cars, around $1k doesn't sound HORRIBLE for something with so much work.

In my opinion it won't be a good change.
4x4s are built from the frame out, it isn't an "optional package" where they just bolt on some parts.
A Ranger was built as a 2WD or 4WD then optioned with different packages
2007 Ranger 2WD is worth something, 2007 Ranger 2WD changed to 4WD will be worth less because it's VIN won't match, may have to get Salvaged or Damaged Title for it, depends on the state laws
I would sell the 2WD and buy a 4WD, and spend money on fixing that up to your liking.
