engine bore + piston seals questions

181,000 on a 2000 ranger and Im starting to feel it jolt really hard at start up and turn off. Im going to be doing a compression test and timing light test real soon just to trouble shoot before I spend money.

HOWEVER, just as a "wondering" thing: how much does it normally run to bore a 6 cylinder? Idea being, if compression is shot, im not going to tear a block down to replace a piston ring or two and thats it. If it comes down to it Im gonna bore it and go the whole 9 yards with heads and rollers etc. and get some power back.

This is a very off chance but just so I can be proactive and plan ahead, what is a normal price? thanks yall

If you were willing to go that far , i think it would easier and cheaper to find a good 4.0 and swap it in.
Better power and mileage over a 3.slow.
By the time you sink all that time, money and parts in it , it still won't equal a 4.0

I agree, I don't think it would be cost efficient to do that kind of work to the 3.0.
