Mazda B4000 VS Ford Ranger
Someone offered me a 99 mazda b4000 troy lee edition 4.0 4x4 with 100,000 miles on it for my car. I had my heart set on a ford ranger but he said it was the same thing. How are they the same and in what ways are they different? I have not heard much about mazda ever, are they reliable as the rangers?

Get it. I have absolutely zero qualms about driving a RBV (ranger based vehicle). I have that same truck, minus the Troy Lee trim design. You will love it, it IS a Ford Ranger. The front fascia, the bed (though the Ranger STX models use a Mazda bed), chrome window trim, and the steering wheel are the only differences. It is about 90% Ford Ranger I would say. If you have any questions whatsoever, feel free to ask me or any other active Mazda members on here.

Your roomate is an idiot. I have 147,000 miles on my truck. No major problems except a blown head gasket. Whoopty-do. Original tranny, rear, etc etc. Again, Mazda didn't manufacture this, Ford did. It's comparable to a Chevy S-10/Suzuki Hombre. Ask you're roomate if that would be considered "crap" too.
Again, this seems to be a real good deal. Check the truck top to bottom, and if it looks alright, go for it man. And if this thing is black, I'd be SOOOOO JEALOUS.

a 2000 toyota celica mint condition I bought it from a dealer 6 months ago for 9500, I had a 98 jeep wrangler with a 2.5" BB and 31" Destination M/T's I sold it for the celica to get better gas mileage, but Im just not a car guy, I need to be able to go wheeling and I want a truck I can throw my quad in the back of.

It's a ford ranger. Pop the hood and look at the emblem on any part that has one...it says Ford. Every single aftermarket part will work (as far as I know) just the same. It is seriously just a rebadged ranger with a different grille and tail lights.
I drive a 2000 B3000 TL edition.
Same truck with flames down the side, CF interior parts with TL symbols, upgraded shocks, a little higher ride, and nicer seats (though still cloth). I dont know about the 4000, but the TL 30000 came with a 4.10 LSD. I run 30's and have no problems with the old vulcan that could.
The TL decals on the outside are a little gay. Once I get the money I'm gonna get interior door panels that dont say Troy Lee, remove the TL stickers on the outside, and murder it (flat black). Put a 3" lift on the front and go even darker on the windows.

BTW, if he continues to rag on the mazda. Tell him the Isuzu Hombre is a hunk of **** that will brake down constantly because it's an isuzu.
Only you'll be telling the truth. lol
Mazda > *....and not just because their trucks have been rangers for over a decade. They've always made quality products. The 3 series kicks butt in its class.

If you get it, take care of it or else you will have nonstop problems.
I didnt take care of mine now it has a split front end and no trans, although I have a Honda now lol
B3000 with bodylift on 33s. I liked having a lifted Mazda because there are so few!
This was my interior
But this is what happened to it, said to be because of cranking the Tbars (tires are stock) but I believe it was a different problem. It ate through control arms like nothing else, just had them replaced a few months ago.
(I love whoring my old truck)

Damn dude, thats pretty harsh. the truck looks sick! I love the leather seats in there. But that doesn't make me feel too good lol, that the tranny is shot (after how many miles?) and the front end, maybe 33's are too much stress for the control arms? did you ever get an allignment after your lift and 33's? what gears did you have? What do you mean by take care of it, does that mean to not wheel it?

Take the truck and run brotha!
I have a 2002 B4000 that just rolled 250k miles. My dad bought it new and it has been the most reliable and dependable truck ever. When he gave this one to me, he liked it so much that he went out and bought himself a brand new 2008 B4000, and to date, in 6 months, it has not had a single problem in 15 000 miles.
Mechanically, like everyone else says, it's just a 4.0L 4x4 Ranger. It's just visual differences and interior, trim, equipment and some minor option differences between the 2 trucks.
Either way, you can't go wrong with this B4000 or any Ranger.
It's like buying a Cavalier and having someone tell you that you should have bought a Sunfire instead because they're more/less gay or something. All it boils down to is they're the same $#!+, but in a different pile.

Oh, in my truck's 250k mile life, the only maintenance done has been:
2 complete tune ups
3 brake jobs
1 clutch replacement
2 slave cylinders
3 sets of tires
A couple warranty repairs
...and you know what the absolute worst problem has ever been with this truck since we bought it off the lot?
A seized slave cylinder at 110k miles.
This truck just keeps going and going.
