Motorcraft > Seafoam

As most of you know i work at a Ford dealership and i like to see what sweet Motorcraft stuff they sell...

So today i purchased the Motorcraft version of seafoam, called "Motorcraft Carburetor Tune-Up" and i used it in my truck as you would use seafoam, except after you let it sit 15 minutes and re-start it, you pour the rest of the bottle in. It is far stronger than seafoam, and produced better results.

I have used seafoam and it is a great product, but i think im sold on the Motorcraft version now, and it is only $4.90 my cost, so it is half the price of Seafoam.

Motorcraft Carburetor Tune-Up (Part Number PM-3)

After i put it in my truck, being a seafoam virgin, it smoked in excess of 20 mins at 2000rpm. I took it on the E-way on my way home from work and opened it up and it pulled alot better from 0-80 and the idle is better as well

EDIT!!!

*It is highly recommended that this product be purchased at www.stuffforyourranger.com *

ran a can thru my turboranger back on 02 when i worked at a dealer still. carbon buildup = decimated!

if i did it three times, i would definitely change the oil afterwards, haha

i didnt feel any need to do it again after the first time, and im still runnin the same motor with over 200K and 20psi of boost. havent even had the head off....its no miracle magic treatment or anything, but i dont have any detonation problems either, which would be a possible symptom of carbon build up again.

Found this TSB:

FORD:
1990-1997 AEROSTAR
1990-2000 EXPLORER, RANGER

ISSUE
Some vehicles equipped with the 4.0L OHV engine may exhibit an engine noise which may be perceived by the customer as a piston/connecting rod bearing knock. This carbon knock is heard only under load during the drive cycle. Carbon knock is a customer drive duty-cycle phenomenon that cannot be repaired with an engine exchange. This may be caused by carbon build-up within the combustion chamber.

ACTION
Verify condition. If normal diagnostics fail to correct the condition, de-carbon the combustion chamber to help quiet the carbon knock noise. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Use Motorcraft Carburetor Tune-up Cleaner PM-3.

2. Carbon removal:
a. Disconnect canister purge line from throttle body.
b. Attach a vacuum line to the canister purge port.
c. At hot engine idle, allow the engine to ingest 1/2 to 2/3 of a can of Motorcraft Carburetor Tune-up Cleaner. Use caution not to ingest too quickly due to potential hydro-lock issues.
d Shut engine off and allow it to soak for one hour.
e. Start engine, allow engine to ingest the remainder of the Motorcraft Carburetor Tune-up Gleaner.
f. Remove vacuum line and re-install canister purge line.
g. Road test vehicle at 3500 RPM for 2-3 miles.
h. Repeat above procedure two times for a total of three times.
i. Change oil and filter.

3. Review the customers' driving habits
. The recommended drive cycle should include daily periods of engine operation above 3,000 RPM, such as a brisk acceleration from a stop position. This will break/burn the carbon off the piston head.

4. Use regular unleaded fuel, 87 Octane. Mid-grade and Premium fuels may increase the probability of carbon buildup, leading to a knock noise.

same because I have a supercharger? I can just unhook the boost gauge and let it suck it in?

I have never used Seafoam or anything in 110K miles.

I'd like to do it too. My truck pings in high gear on a pull (uphill). I think I baby it too much, and that builds up carbon deposits on the pistons. That TSB says in a roundabout way to run the guts out of your truck periodically. :)

The brake booster vacuum line works good.

yes...sorry i forgot to say i did it in the vacuum line from the brake booster. Im gonna do it on my dads 4.0 OHV in a few days. if you guys cant get it ill just order a case and youll pay cost+shipping but i dont see why you couldnt get it

ALSO!!! if you have a 3v 5.4 that the plugs break off when you remove them (like every 5.4 3v does) pour this miracle liquid down the spark plug holes over night before removing them. the shop foreman swears by it and hasnt broken one off yet
