Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum and have already found it immensely helpful, so thanks! One thing I haven't been able to find is information on which hose to install the T on when performing a flush with the kit. I have a 1995 Ranger XLT 2.3L . Just don't want to cut the wrong hose. Thanks!

 

Don't need a T, just pull a line and flush.

 

Use one of the lines coming out or going into the heater core.

 

Thanks guys, figured it out, flushing has commenced. Hopefully that will help solve the high running temp.

 

You change your thermostat too? High running temp could mean it's stuck closed

 

Okay, here's what's been going on lately. Last Tuesday she overheated and died on me on the way home from work. Got her home the next morning after adding water to the radiator. When I added the water it leaked like a sieve from what looked like the bottom of the engine, took her to a shop and they found that it was the freeze plug. Got it fixed ($350 later) but it was running really hot. Replaced the thermostat on Saturday but that didn't help at all. Now I'm flushing the radiator and I think that may have helped but on the second flush after the cleaner the Check Engine light has come on...WTF?!

 

I've had this truck since 1998 and never (and I mean ever) had one problem with it. I guess I was overdue huh?

 

What kind of cleaner did you use when you flushed your coolant out?

Update: Finished the flushing, replaced coolant, drove around for a bit and temp stayed nice and low. Left her running while I ran in to the house and when I came back I noticed a pool of water under the truck and dripping from underneath. Open the hood to find a steady stream of water squirting out from somewhere right above the oil filter. Can anyone tell me what the hell that is???

 

You didn't empty out the heater core or the engine block and you've sprung a leak.

 

I'm assuming that this is bad, right?

 

Sort of.
Check your hoses and the like. see if you can pinpoint the leak. it is probably just a hose. When you flushed it, did you insert the T fitting? or did you just shove the garden hose into the coolant line? You most likely didn't flush out the heater core but you probably flushed out the engine block.
you need to know what the leak is before you can progress.
