Well im gettin screwed pretty good on gas because of the truck so ive been looking into getting a nice car. I want a 4 door thats preferably fast and manual.

So I found these
1st is okay but its auto so thats my third choice.

I like the lancers and they are pretty much tied with the wrx...maybe not the sti though. But those go for more so for price wise I like the lancers. Ive looked kbb and it says 7000 so Im hoping to get close to that in trade in value.

What do you guys think? Keep the truck or what? Im not at all close to deciding because I loooove my truck but I also like goin fast haha

and a wrx is going to be wayyy faster then one of those lancers. and its a true awd. the lancers are fail wheel drive.

 

Those lancers are no where near tied with WRX's...

120hp 2.0l engine won't get you anywhere fast either

 

If you would rather have a Lancer then go for it. Only you can make that decision since people have different wants and needs.

 

Even the wrx's around here go for 8-10 thousand around here. Dont get me wrong Id love a wrx over a oz rally lancer BUT theyre better than most cars. Or so ive heard and i know im on a ford ranger site haha but try not to be too biased

 

Lancer's are good cars, but they are not in the same category as a wrx. Like someone else mention the lancer has a 120hp NA motor and is FWD. The wrx has a 225hp turbo motor and is awd. No where near the same in any shape or form. If the ranger is paid off and your looking into picking up a payment on the new car considering your looking at a 03-04. You will end up spending more money. Then keeping the ranger that is paid off. It'll cost more for the car in the short and long run.

Edit: I just looked and saw that you live in PA. Personally i'd keep the truck with it being 4x4.

 

Well I was looking to trade the truck flat out for the lancer...and i was given the truck so id be down 100 bucks tops for the HU. And I was wrong about the WRX comment the review I was looking at seems to be the 2008 lancer evo compared to the wrx, I thought it was the OZ rally.

If you go through a dealer they wont strait trade you. Especially with a 98-00 truck for a 03-04 car. You would have to pay cash on top because all they will give you is trade in value and they will sell the car at its retail value and you will have to make up the difference. If you dont have cash to do it. Just stick with the truck. It was given to you so all it cost is gas and insurrance. In the long run it'll be cheaper to keep it.

 

Yeah those lancers are pretty pathetic, have you looked into an SVT Focus?? 190hp 6spd, they are not bad little cars at all.

I dont really like hatchbacks haha. But do you guys know of any other 4 door sedans that are worthwhile looking at? Consider that I think my moms cavalier is fast.

 

First off, and SVT focus is only 170 HP, secondly if you don't like Hatchbacks get a ST focus:

Well, another possibility is the Mazda 3 Speed. They are available in a hatchback 4door and a sedan, (my mom has the hatchback 4door, which curiousley has more cargo space than the sedan). It has the 2.5 L 4 banger, and it has good torque, a really free breathing top end, and tight handling. The mazdaspeed version is a turbocharged version of the motor, i think something like 200 plus ponies. Comes with automatic with stick option (5speed), or i would assume 6 speed standard. And its stilllll kinnnnda a ford.... kinda. But not really.

I hate those Lancers. One of my friends had one with the standard engine, it was not fast my any means, it was cramped and the interior was cheap. It was definitely nothing to get excited about.

Front wheel drive is just fine in the snow though, especially with winter tires. But AWD with a turbo is sooo much more fun. I wouldn't buy a Subaru newer than 05 though, seems like their quality took a dump around that time.

 

why not look into a volvo, you can get the t5 engine and there quick, belive me i have one, there reliable as hell and get pretty good milage. plus there the ulimate sleeper car. lancer's are a fairly cheap eco box and as said are nothing to get excited about. just my .02

i say keep your truck since it's paid for and save up a down payment and get a car you want

 

Mazdaspeed3 only comes in a 5 door(4 door hatch). Has 276hp and it only comes with a 6 speed manual

while I wouldnt mind a lancer as a more fuel efficient vehicle, there is no way I would ever trade my ranger for one.
