Icon9 2008 ranger FX4 ordering issues

Hello all, first time posting in these forums. I was at my local dealer to order a 2008 Ford Ranger with Standard transmission. the dealer said I would have to order it and she would price it out prior to ordering. After a week and a bit she informed me that the build date for the STD FX4 are not until October 1st. I knew from the 2008 MY RANGER marketing form that there was going to be a delay, but that was dated back in April. I was interested in seing if anyone else has had problems or heard of this delay.

I had read somewhere that manual trans 08 rangers were NOT going to be produced until mid-year. That might be your delay.

^^^Dave lol... You seem to be in a bad mood lately....

It makes sense considering they are just ramping up on 08 production, they probably sell 80% of the FX4's with autos, so they want to pump a few months worth of trucks out to stock dealer lots. its simple supply and demand. Aside from that, they maybe updating that trans (doubt it tho) in one way or another...

ya but how hard is it to slap in a manual? 5 minutes? I mean seriously. with fords financial shape, it seems like its ignorance more than anything. I mean, its not like the ranger is selling like hot cakes. To me, sounds like poor management at ford.

btw im in a great mood. I got my truck back

not really. I am sure they run the truck in strings 100 in auto 10 in manual.

there are several things that would have to be changed on the line to install a manual trans.

i really doubt they are loosing a bunch of sales over this.

^^^ They aren't loosing any.... The majority of the the trucks sold (in FX4 trim) are automatic...

Edit: Zack you are also correct in the fact that there would be a tool change in the line to install automatics vs manuals...

I know for a fact that the 2008 are out with STD transmissions, did a test drive with one and the dealer still has it in stock. link to orange 2008 ranger . Either it just the 4.0l line or they're being lazy. If it wasn't forfamily pricing and the x-plan thru work I probably would look elsewhere, but after the test drive I'm hooked......just haveta wait I guess.

They both have the m5od but the guts are stronger in the 4.0 I think... I was also referring to the FX4, the 3.0 doesn't come in the FX4...

I don't know much but there are a couple things I can think of.

Is the Orange one 2wd because it could be 4x4 manual that is being released mid-year.

I know wiring harnesses, computers and such are differant between manual and auto so tooling and/or parts changes are required for a differant run.

Look at the F150. In 04 with the new body styly you could not get a manual untill after mid-year and than it was only on 2wd regular cab 4.6L trucks. I know this is differant but in 2001 or 02 Toyota did away with the manual in the 4runner. Maybe Ford is being stingy on the manual trannies because they are planning on dropping them in Ranger (or Ranger replacement) in the near future. They obviously did away with the manual in the F150 unless somthing changed and I did not hear about it.

Manual is only available in the 2wd V6 F150 now, not in the V8. I just don't think enough people buy them anymore. I love mine, but people like me who even know how to drive a manual are a dieing breed...

ya that's the sport model. I was correcting a prior post saying that all standards were late release, which aparently they aren't. only things mechanically different between sport and fx4 are diff, shocks, grey plastic instead of body colour, stickers and shifter. no reason why the STD fx4 should be delayed.

They are a different model tho, if they batch build, they may not be batch building one specific model with that specif trans until October. Aside from that, if you plan on ordering one anyway, whats the deal? I mean it take anywhere from 6-12 weeks or more depending on the vehicle to get one anyway. So place your order and in 2 months, you will have it.

That is true all the trucks around me are auto, I had my choice between a black 07 xlt reg cab 2.3 auto and my vista blue xlt 2.3 manual both trucks were identical besides the color and transmission wise and I wanted stick anyways because i always wanted to learn it and I heard its alot more fun to drive which it is. I dont regret my decision at all Im glad I learned i got stick and I actually enjoy driving it rather than auto even though auto can be nice at times. And I saved myself a grand by getting the stick to.

Which is why there are more autos, its pretty much proven that the manual trans/clutch sucks on the ranger. Slave Cylinder every 20k on most trucks?

Autos can do everything the manual can, plus they can tow.

Ive had a manual, I can drive both, I miss the manual but my auto is really nice to have while wheeling.

try driving a manual up at silver lake sand dunes...

My trans has held up well so far, but the clutch and the salve suck, thats why I am installing a spec this time, then I only have to deal with the slave...lol. :(

As far as sand dunes, it cant be any harder than 5500 pounds of boat up a boat launch.
