Tires too wide?

my last set of tires came in at a whopping 295-60-15, I measured the tread width and it came out to 11.23 inches.
before that I ran 255's that had an 8.4" width.
and before that I also ran 255's, but on a different set of rims with adapters (different bolt pattern) and my tires stuck out close to 2" from the fenders.
I never had a problem with the law, nor clearance issues.

However if you bothered to pay attention to the previous posts , you may not be so lucky in other states .

Here we have the "penny" rule. If a cop rolls a penny down the side of your truck and it hits the tire before the ground then its too wide. I however have never had a problem with any police officers even on my 16 hour drive to michigan. It really depends on how the officer feels that day in reality lol most of them don't care.
