Ford made a Ranger in 2002 with a 4.0L SOHC that pushed 222 hp. An exhaust and intake were installed to reach these figures.
Oh they work as long as you get the right one. Rich said that the ECU pulls timing at 80 degrees and I can guarantee that with a K&N FIPK you will be over that 80 degree point like 90% of the time. If you get an intake that keeps hot air out then you will see some gains. Also an intake alone wont do much but when combined with other go fast parts then the intake will really help.
