so im thinkin about tradin my ranger for this cause for 7 days their havin a special where they'll give you 2500 more than its worth so i started lookin and came across this and really like it and kbb said its worth about 3k so thatd be 5500 down and this truck, so what do you guys think, i know its a lot of miles but its a diesel so it should still have a lot of life left

Looks like it was taken care of well, but I think it's kind of pricey. Diesels run forever but it still has high miles, but I know nothing about diesels. I don't even know if the dealer will give you $3K for your truck.

it has front leaf springs and a solid front axle

pillar pods with gauges
it even has a lift kit and big GNARLY tires

that is a hell of a deal for 14,900

for a 1999 with over 200,000 thousand miles. that price is to high. it looks like its in decent condition. but i wouldnt pay that price for that truck. check for slop in the gear shifter, a known problem on the fullsize fords.

This is the 7.3 liter PowerStroke, which is also known as the Navistar T444E. They're Navistar (International)'s cheapest motor and are widely referred to as a "throwaway" engine in the medium duty truck community. They leak like hell, cost a fortune to repair, and the only single advantage of them is that they sold so many of them that there are a great number of mechanics familiar with all of their issues. They're worthless...like most "V" configuration diesel motors..

Straight-6 is a far superior setup (if you can fit it) and my opinion is that anything from Cat or Cummins is better. I wouldn't buy a PowerStroke if my life depended on it.

I know, I have owned two...both equally garbage and defy conventional diesel logic: They get awful gas mileage and are not reliable. They do not "last forever."

Save your money...get a gasoline engine if you have to get a Ford...International's motors...particularly this one...are bad news. If you insist on PowerStroke, get the newer one, the VT365 ("6.0 PowerStroke" in Ford-speak). They're just as bad, but they're newer and likely to be under warranty.

Don't flame on me if you have a hard-on for Power Stroke engines. I've owned two and I'm speaking from my personal experience. I maintain my vehicles precisely to factory schedule...and these things are complete garbage.

Personally I wouldn't. The mileage wouldn't worry me so much if it was stock (or close to stock height). Who knows how long that lift has been on it, or what toll the lift and tire size has taken on the suspension and drivetrain.

My truck has 202k, and without a doubt I'd buy it again. I've put 20k miles on it, relatively trouble free. The problems I have had have been consequences of the power level I'm at.

Besides, the pics look like it could use tires before too long. ($$$$$$$$). That thing is huge, and is likely a dog with those tires on it, so I bet it LOOVVESSS #2 diesel. I see it has gauges... any mods done to it? It has Banks gauges (puke), so lets hope it doesn't have a Banks chip on it (puke x 1,000,000).

I don't know your income, or what you do, but a diesel is going to cost a LOT more to maintain than your Ranger. Oil changes with Rotella cost me around $80-90 if I recall correctly. Oil changes with Amsoil are north of $160 (not even including filters), but also less frequent.

Yeah, I think its great if you get a diesel. But I want to make sure you're well prepared, and well informed, before you go signing papers.

EDIT: And I have to quote the guy above me who is talking out his ***

Lol Give me a break. I think you've proven your cluelessness.

CAT makes v8 diesels as well

The 7.3L is the most reliable, trouble-free Powerstroke to date. The 6.4L and 6.7L are still too young to tell)If you insist on PowerStroke, get the newer one, the VT365 ("6.0 PowerStroke" in Ford-speak). (Terrible advice. You have no idea how many issues there are with the 6.0 do you?) They're just as bad, but they're newer and likely to be under warranty.

Don't flame on me if you have a hard-on for Power Stroke engines. Not flaming you for your bashing, I'm flaming you based on your apparent ignorance I've owned two and I'm speaking from my personal experience. I maintain my vehicles precisely to factory schedule...and these things are complete garbage.
Bobbie, the only thing I noticed in your post that you were correct about, was that the 7.3L Powerstroke is a T444E. Everything else was complete misinformation.

This thread is funny. If the T444E is such junk, why are they still around? I wouldn't pay that much for that overgrown POS. I'd give them $8999 if it were me.

I'd pass, for many reasons. Espcially if it's an early 99'. Nothing wrong with the engine, but you then have a combination of new vs. old on a few certain parts. The body itself looks clean as can be though!

the 99's still had forged internals, ie rods....the newer pmr motors are still good but i would rather have the forged motor. at any rate the psd's have great longevity...

7.3L PSD are great trucks. They are getting so hard to find around here, everyone is buying them up

My dad's 99 7.3L PSD runs great and has never let him down

Talk him down a couple thousand and drive away with it

The 7.3 PSD are one of the strongest motors that international built, you can do just about anything to them and the bottom end will take it, and make ****load of power.

it's not on that site anymore. at least under the pre-owned.

personally i'd avoid a dealer that is charging $4900 for a 95 topaz/tempo.

You are also incorrect on the strongest engines Navistar built...You realize they make a lot of engines right?
