Ran the Trailer Queen at the drag strip

I was hoping for 17.5 or better, so I was pleasantly surprised that my best run of the night was 17.01@80mph. I was having a hard time launching, caught between bogging and one-wheel peel, but a posi rear is in the near future, which should put me solidly in the 16s. Also I'm sure if I were running stock size tires that would help some.

All in all I say not bad for a mostly stock 3.0L (only "power" mods are K&N, MAF mod, and a flowmaster, which probably hurts my torque anyway)

I ran the truck with my ~40lb toolbox in the bed, and of course I have a bed-cover. Hurst Shifter kept my gear-changes on the quick, but I hit the traps at the top of 3rd gear anyway.

So what is everybody else running?

My fastest was 17.6 and that was with exhaust, chip and intake. I had stock height and stock tires then too. But I am 4x4 so that doesn't help:)

I wonder how much weight the 4x4 equipment adds to otherwise comparable trucks?

I did the math on my tires and the final drive ratio is just about exactly what it would be with stock tires and 3.73s too, but I have alot more unsprung/rolling mass.

I am not sure how much weight. Drive shaft, transfer case, front axle, misc other 4WD stuff.

Yeah, I don't doubt that its a significant difference, but the old racers rule of thumb is .1 for every 100lbs. I wonder if a 4x4 really weighs 600lbs more.

Hmm interesting question. Do you have 4.10's or 3.73's I forget? I am running 4.10's.

The 4x4 weighs as much as the difference in the towing capabilities between the two. or is the the GVWR? Can't remember.

4X4s however have to go through a transfercase which is more potential drag on the drivetrain componets. So you loose more that way then by the weight.

I'm running 4.10s, but when you factor in how much bigger my tires are than stock, my final drive ratio at the wheels is the same as if I had 3.73s.

Brian didn't mention that he raced me on 3 of his runs.I was ver suprised at how fast his truck ran and also how slow mine did.He actually ended up running a faster time than me by the end of the night.I ran 17.09 at 77.98 mph.Much slower than it used to run.I figure the taller tires I have hurt. Also I don't think the 410s I put in helped either. They did help with my towing which is what I was looking for.Best run ever for me was 16.2 @ 81mph.I guess it might be getting tired with 142,000 miles. It was fun racing Brian though. Our trucks are very close running down the track which makes it fun.At least the Mustang is getting faster, finally broke into the 11s.Last Sunday it ran 11.96 @ 112.17mph,all motor.

What Marc didn't mention is that he SCHOOLED me at the tree, holeshotting me every time, except the occasion when I revved the motor up to 5K at the tree and it actually rolled through the lights on its own! Just as the tree started I saw the first stage light go out.. I was severely shallow staged, and rolling towards the light with the clutch all the way in! I rolled out to a .395 light. That was the only time I beat Marc to the line, despite running a slower ET than him (although on the previous run I ran the better ET but he still beat me to the traps due to my dismal .7 light.)

All I know is my last truck was equipped almost exactly like yours (sans the tires) and got 10.69 in the eigthth mile. I've guessed that to be around a mid to high 16 second quarter. It was a reg cab, 3.0l manual, MAF mod, open 4.10's, and a gibson cat back.

His truck doesn't have that sound anymore.. his flowmaster and dual rears are on my truck now. (He had to go with a side-exit magnaflow to get the trailer hitch back on.)

Yeah,I wish I still had the duals but there just wasn't room for it with the hitch. Also,I didn't want exhaust blowing straight back onto the Mustang when it was on the trailer.Don't worry,Adam, the body color mirrors are still there! The bumpers will be done soon also. And I have a Dynomax cat back on there now,not a Magnaflow.
