Well, that's surprising since I thought our axles were 28 spline and the Ex's were 31 spline! I would not have thought you could put it in there. I guess if you reuse the stock gears that go on the axle?
How did you set the pinion lash? That's the only "critical" setup on the install and if it's not done right the rear can be trashed pretty quickly if it's off a lot.

John, I had doubts that it was 31 spline too. I looked it up a couple times online, and it said that all explorers were made with 31 spline axles. when I got the carrier from leo, I counted 28 twice, and had my dad count it once, and he counted 28 also. I don't know what was going on with that, but it works :)
I did all the "messy" and handling taking the open out, and new one in. brian's dad did the measurement, and after we was done, he told me that it was soo close, that it didn't need any measuring. we even used the same shims. I would imagine it could differ from different axles to another?

Very good! Glad to hear it worked out. I guess if the carrier is dimensionally nearly exact that could mean no adjustment is needed. It's needed when you regear -- but then different ring and pinion gears have been installed and clearance could definitely change.
I like my limited slip -- but I still want a locker someday I think. My limited slip was quite limted today getting back down off the mound I did flex shots on. My front wheel ended up in a hollow, and the torque to the grounded rear wheel was not enough when I tried to back down. I had to use the emergency brake trick: put the e-brake on about 1/2 to 3/4 tension (or what I thought was that) and then I got enough torque to the grounded wheel to back off the mound.

as im driving around yesterday, it was smooth, and when I hit the gas, .. umm.. the truck moves :) and all you hear when you have the drivers window down, is the back left wheel kinda churn and chatter..(meaning it's moving) :)

Ya know I have a OEM L/S and thats all I have ever had and I can't really tell you if its great or not because I don't know what anything else feels like. But if you are that excited about yours then it must really make a difference.
