New Whip

so i got into a bit of an accident and it is time to move onto a new project. My ranger was a great truck. first vehicle that was actually mine. I got a check from insurance and I payed off what i owed on it and bought this little beast with what i had left over. Had to keep it in the ranger family. im happy, nothing fancy, but i can definitely rock it. sorry for the small pictures but my phone is being a *****.

^^^^

its a 96 with the 5.0l and the all wheel drive setup. the exterior is a little rough, but the interior is clean and nothing is broken. except the emergency brake light stays on. its sitting at 115k miles. actually a few hundred less than my ranger had

its stupid cold outside, but i dont think ill be able to resist doing an oil change. anyone know where the drain plug is on the 5 liter. i really took having a lifted truck for granted... crawling around under this thing is really tight

i want to keep this modest. ill see what i can get out of the front using the t-bars and level out the rear to match. id like to be able to fit 31 inch bfg all terrains. not lift it, but give it a healthy stance. its kind of ridiculous to think that the set of tires is worth more than a third of what i got the truck for. i hate buying tires

Sweet. Check warrior products for rear lift shackles, good for about 1.5".
I think the part number is WAR-153 and you should be able to get a decent price from tellico4x4.com

Damn......nasty accident. I think it was due to the ugly Christmas greens in the grille, but that's a whole other thread.....LOL

Nice new-to-you Expo though.

You do know that almost all of the Explorer suspension and drivetrain is the same as the Ranger right? With the exception of the AWD case with the 5.0L but you can swap in a manual case. It is just a shorter frame Ranger with spring under axle in the rear.

i wouldnt spend my money on anything less than full size and there was absolutely nothing worth buying in my price range. the SUV thing isnt too shabby though. i have four doors and can leave stuff in the back without it getting stolen or rained on

yup, all the same junk. its nice having all the explorer things they dont put on the ranger. especially the 5.0. it would have been amazing in my old truck

How much do you off road?

I would be real tempted to make a sleeper out of that truck. I mean the 5.0 isnt known to be moddable or have a big aftermarket or anything.

Rather than lift/tires/wheels, how about intake/headers/exhaust/softwear. You could have a low 14 second truck with minimal work, mid 13s with minimal internal work. My wifes car is a Grand Cherokee with the Ram 4.7L V8. I've done a little tinkering with it and believe me, when your 15 year old stock looking SUV steps all over a brand new $35k 370Z or BMW, the look on the guys face is 100% worth it.

And its 7 degrees here, going down to -4 tonight and someone from Minnesota or Canada is probably going to make my 7 degrees look silly.
