I have been dealing with a stupid thing lately with my rear window. I got one today that seems to be right. But what I got from the yards and from ford and from users were very conflicting results. What I figured is I would post a thread for future people working on this so they would have a little better info.

So here it is, post your year, ext cab or standard, bolt in or not, slider or not, and the bottom width, height, and diagnal. Figure that would be enough info to get some results out of.

This is my first attempt to give back to the forums!!! I will compile and post the results after we get some good data.

 

slider would be a nice mod on the truck .

 

I actually purposely replaced the slider rear on mine with a solid glass. My security just went up 500%

 

i agree, i was gonna swap out my clear solid to a slider, but i never could find one, so one day i came across a factory tinted solid window, and i love it

 

I want Solid. width and what not will be hard to measure accurately with the molding around it though won't it?

 

I was figuring with molding and everything. Just a basic measurement would give us a better idea. I have mine on the floor and will be measuring it tonight. I have been told that ext cab have bolt in and standard cab dont...interested in that one. SO SOMEONE PUT SOME STATS UP.

 

My Standard cab bolts in. They are the same size, also. I can take pictures, if you don't believe me.

well that tells me that 2000-up all have bolt in glass that is the same size. Bet that means 98-up, but before I say that I would want to make sure that ford didnt do something dumb along the way! My 99 is bolt in.

 

I think you said you left your "black goo from hell" (aka sealer) on, but I was cleaning up the old window and tried a few things. Brake cleaner, carb cleaner, laquer thinner...... and then found (after having it stuck to my fingers) the easy way is to get a small blob on your fingers and use it to pull another section off. Kinda like silly putty that gets stuck to stuff. You have to pull fast to get it to break the "seal" with the gasket, but it comes off completely clean. Didnt even need to do a wipe down after. The goo seems to like to stick to itself more than other stuff......of course it REALLY likes to stick to your fingers.

Dude...calm down here. All of the windows from 1998 and up are THE SAME. You're not going to be the one unlucky truck owner who got a German model or something with a one-off rear window.

 

you must be new to fords. On my 67 mustang they used 3 (yes thats three) different pully setups for the ac compressor and bracket system over the course of that one year. I know this is drastic, but for example my mazda has a computer system that was used in 93 and 94 only after that it was the new system. BUT in 1994 they switched to r134 from the r12 for the ac systems. So yes, they do odd stuff at odd times and just because the bodies look the same nothing else is a safe bet. Besides, if you read my earlier post, the local ford dealer told me that some years were bolt in and some were not and THEY tried to tell me it was listed as a difference between ext cab and standard.

But hey, I was not trying to do this to help myself. I dont need the window replaced anymore. I was trying to get some info down for owners that need to do this in the future.

Since no one has posted up I dont know what to say. Sorry. Was just trying to give back a little.

 

These are Rangers, not Mustangs. The vehicles are built very similiarly, even to the Ford Explorer, and they are "dumbed down". As in, on a lot of our trucks we have the wiring to have accessories from classier explorer vehicles, but they aren't wired up.

 

Indeed. My 2000 standard cab base model sport had wiring in place to accept the PATS system.

Also, mfp4073, the things you listed were changed for functionality or environmental reasons. If something isn't working right on a vehicle, it's possible the manufacturer will make a change in the same model year. However, it's kindof hard for the rear window to cause any issues that require immediate attention and change.

 

actually that is very common to do across all platforms from all manufacturers.

 

just for conversation sake (and I know my classics better than modern cars), but ford would put different stuff on sometimes in the classic mustang years that would vary from factory to factory. Or sometimes an "upgrade" would be done at one factory starting in april and then another in june and then the last one in july right before the new model year! I am trying to think of stuff like this on my mazdas but am drawing a blank right now. There are to this day modifications made due to financial and other reasons. Heck, I can see a mid year fix on a rear window going from standard to bolt in rear glass to solve a leak problem or a problem with them popping out during low speed impacts. I swear in the 20 years I have been working on cars I have often been able to find little rhyme or reason to some of the changes or why things were not upgraded.
