Chrome plated Waag Push bar for Explorer Sports?!

I seen one like 2 weeks ago on a newer Sport, it was almost identical to my Waag bar, only in chrome. ANd man I practically wet my pants...

The side pillars where in chrome, with the black rubber gaurds like mine, and the horizontal top bar was black, and the bottom round bar was chrome i believe, and man, that looked KILLER. I have looked online but havent found anything. Id actually sell my waag bar and buy one of those instead.

why? So it can peal in 5yrs and I can waste tons of sand trying to get the chrome off? For that sort of thing, Its best to get the steel bare, and then dip. Problem with that tho, is you literally have about 1hr before the rust starts... sooner if the humidity is above 50%

If you drop it off at any decent place they should be able to strip the stuff off it for you right before they dip it, if not just strip it yourself with some aircraft remover and keep it in your house until you drop it off since it wont rust very fast at all if its inside your house.

I do professional sandblasting. bare metal, thats been blasted, begins to rust pretty fast... And all it takes is 1 pore of rust, and thats a pot mark with in 6 months. Which is why, its best to have chrome done through a manafactuer, than you are thruogh aftermarket.

If you keep the stuff inside your house you should be good, I live in S. Florida so I have insane humidity and when my dad owned a Harley parts store we would have a lot of bare metal parts and frames and stuff that would never even start to rust when they were in the showroom but as soon as some of that stuff hit the storage unit it all started to get surface rust pretty fast.

Thats because inside the showroom its air conditioned. where as outside you have the high humidity. The AC removes most of the humidity in the air.

if you get a good chrome shop you will have no problems with rust. this is just like your belief that your aluminum drive shaft is mickey mouse and cheap, you need to educate yourself on things before you make stupid remarks and mislead people.

you got numbers to back that? Most people i know have central air that live north of Virginia

heck, if not, they have window units.

and seriously, look up the chroming process before you diss it. Most chrome dipped products out live "manufacter chromed items"

sand blast, rinse in parts washer, spray with fresh water (to remove solvent), air dry, spray with wd-40, set on shelf in warehouse.

months later-

pull from shelf, dip in acid, put thru plating process.

this is part of my everyday job is prepping parts for chroming.

reading is your friend.
