You need a trailer signal/brake sending unit if you're wiring a 4-pin (converts your signal and brake into one wire per side), it's not needed for a 7-pin.

i just used the t-connector on my 94'. you just unplug plugs right under tailgate, and insert t-connector and plug in plugs on each side...

You're going to need a 4-pin trailer adapter (if you're trailer is 4-pin, a good percentage are 4-pin). Our older Rangers use separate brake and signal bulbs/elements, trailers use the same filament for both the brake and signal output. You need an adapter to convert your lighting system to a 4-pin. For this you can use two kinds of adapters; a plug in style that plugs into your light sockets or a universal where you tap into your light wires however/wherever you so choose.

Plug In Type

If it's a 6-way, disregard everything I said and just tape into each needed wire accordingly.
