Ford went to 5w 20 to help meet cafe standards cause it will get you slightly better gas mileage over 30. I've got 90,000 on my 4.0 and have used it in Texas from the get go when I bought it new. The same with my 3.0's

I thought ford kept the 4.0 motor using 5w30 because 5w20 was too thin for the oil pump used in the 4.0?

I was reading around when trying to figure out if I should run my 3.0 on 5w20 as the newer engines run...but I'm staying at 5w30. It works and works well (as far as I can tell).

Edit: just read that Granite has an '04 4.0....probably should listen to him...
