Spare tire
Hello everyone.
I have two questions about the spare tire holding apparatus on my 2000 Ford Ranger.
(1) Is it designed to hold a full-size spare or only a donut? I have a full-size spare (225 on stock 15x7 rim) that I would like to mount under there.
(2) If so, what is the best/recommended way to go about removing the spring (?) contraption underneath the wingnut in order to mount the spare up under there?
Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

A 225/70R15 tire will fit with plenty of room.
The truck's OEM tire changing tools are needed to lower the holder down. One of the rods has a hook on the end. You insert the hook end of the rod into the hole between the bottom of the tailgate and the bumper. It will lock into place and you just rotate it and the holder will lower. Once it is low enough, and there is plenty of slack in the cable, you just put the cable and holder through the hub of the wheel and winch the spare up until it is secure. Some trucks have a lock over the hole where you winch the holder down, so you will need to find the key to remove it if the truck has the lock.
