Failed: Tail light mod..

I just tried to do the headlight mod on the DEPO 2006+ Taillight you can get from Certifit.
I started at 175F for 5, 10, 15 mins.
Then 195F for 5, 10, 15 mins.
Then 205F for 5, 10, 15 mins.
Then 215F for 5, 10, 15 Mins.
Then 225F for 5, 10, 15 mins.
Then 230F for 5, 10, 15 mins.
Then 240 for 5, then about 7 mins in I hear a creaking sound, by the time I got it out, it had deformed. I atleast tried see if I could get it open, and end up breaking off a piece.

I gave about 5 mins inbetween each temp to cool down. Really sucks about 3 hours of work for nothing. I bought a replacement this afternoon because the one I did the mod on had a few scratches that were driving me crazy. So its not a total loss I am still using it for a demonstration for speech to show how nightshading reduces output. I really wanted to also show an alternative to nightshading that looked good. Oh well..

Gotta have a pic:

Yes that is water, it was a hot failure so I cooled it off with water so I could start cleaning up.

and to cheer things up a bit, here's a belt buckle I put together for my sister for her work's golf thing where every team had a theme. Her team was badass mother truckers, $9 belt from ross, $2 decal from the stockyards, and $5 sticker from pepboys =

Yep, sounded like a good idea at the time.

Well Ty..

If you read his first post in this thread, he said he wanted to do the headlight mod on the taillights......I assume it's taking the tails apart, painting the unneeded chrome, then siloconing the pieces back together. Leaving a chrome round reflector, and chrome reverse reflector, but black everything else.

There is plenty.

I don't have photoshop, but here was the basic idea:

the white parts should be black, minus the reverse reflector part..

Sort of like this:

okay i see what you're saying

just sounds like a lot of work
theres a few cracks and crevices you'll need to prep and paint!

but i cant wait to see if this comes out!

but i think the issue of getting the capsule open in the first place might deter a lot of folks haha

Well that sucks.
On another note, I got behind a black Chevy today with DARK black tail light covers. Mid day, sun is out, I could barely see his brake lights come on from about 50 feet.
I have to say, I almost wanted to rear end his truck just to prove a point, then take a picture for insurance as proof of his negligence. lol
I have noticed that my hood has been half re-sprayed (can't see it but I can feel it), good time for a new one I say!

On the truck:

Video:

If I had not melted the lense from the first try I would keep it on the truck and do the other one aswell. Hopefully somebody else gives it a try and succeed. It does not reduce output nor does it cover your reflectors, so this mod would be the legal way to have black tails in Texas.
