remote speaker in the bed.....

I was thinking about this last night.... how hard would it be to put maybe two small speakers all the way forward in the bed, and hook them up to my radio? Id like to be able to turn these speakers off as well. but they would work great for like when im working on the back of the truck, or out somewhere say, sitting on the tail gate, or if I go to the drive in, to have the speakers RIGHT there. instead of having to blast it in the cab.

any ideas on how to go about doing this? I have some cheap '100 watt' audio speakers, their from like the early 90's dad got em at the flea market... tho im not sure how to wire this up..

Isn't your truck a lease? I wouldn't do this if you don't plan on keeping it. As far as wiring it up, I would think that a splitter like they make for home stereos would work, but I am not a stereo guru.

Hey guys,

you would need a DPDT Switch to alternate between the speakers in the bed and the rear-cad speakers. You CAN NOT run all 6 speakers at the same time, or too much current will be drawn from your head unit wich will result in smells of burning plastic.

Here's a pic of the switch, you want to make sure to wire both left and right speakers in parallel. I'd put the full schematic online, but I don't have upload rights :(

Let me know if you have any questions.

aww, my link didn't work. Heres the hardcopy:

EDIT: Its the schematic of the switch, both your left and right positive get a dedicated input, and you split the rest between the 4 speakers.

it probably wouldnt be a bad idea to use marine grade speakers just incase any moisture happens to be present....i.e. rain

I'm thinking of doing this, but since I have no way of locking my bed, i was thinking of making them removable. Could I just use 1/4 inch head phone jacks to make the connection between the wires in the bed and the speakers?

I was going to mount them on the sides of the bed - permanent.

You could surely make them removable via a stereo plug, however you need to find some kind of way of anchoring the speakers in the bed each time they are in. If you have two marine-grade speakers and paint the grills to match the color of your bed, I doubt anyone would notice, let alone try to take them out.
