I'm starting to think a fuel cell might be more beneficial for my upcoming project. I had a tank I was going to use, but it turned out to be more rusted than I thought... and it may be easier to just start over.

So with that said... I don't know a damn thing about fuel cells. I'd like one maybe in the 10-12 gallon range, but that is less important right now. I'm just trying to learn as much as I can about them.

What's the benefit of plastic vs. aluminum?

What sort of things do I need to buy beyond the cell itself?

Can I get one with an in-tank pump? Or will I need to buy a separate fuel pump and mount it to the frame somewhere?

How do I tell what rating fuel sender I need to work with my vehicle?

I may need to get new fuel lines too... anyone have any suggestions/experiences with those?

There may be more questions that I come up with, but I'm going to go start googling around for the time being.

for a ranger? the zuki? fuel injected? what PSI is the line need to be at? is the current pump in the tank?

 

also napa has high pressure fuel injection lines in 10' boxes. Or you can order braided rubber hose on ebay that will work. I prefer the lines from napa though.

Napa also has the high pressure T clamps for the hose.

 

For the zuki. Fuel injected, and from what I understand the throttle body has a pressure regulator built into it, so the fuel pressure isn't critical. I've found things saying from 35-60 psi though. I'm afraid I don't know much about fuel management systems yet. Thanks for the tip about Napa. About how much does one of those boxes run?

The tank that goes with the new motor has an in-tank fuel pump, but I haven't seen any fuel cells that use in-tank pumps.

normally around 80 bucks for 10' not cheap! i had to buy 3 boxes for my truck.

um you need to have somone make an adapter or run a different pump. i had an adapter made to mount mine in the tank.

 

That's the picture I was trying to find earlier! I figured I would need some sort of adapter to run a stock pump. It might be easier to just go with an external. I'll have to see what on the tank I've got is still good... which I don't think is much.
