"Our insider at FoMoCo says it's almost official that the Ranger compact pick-up will cease to exist in 2008, at least in the U.S. as part of Ford's "Way Forward" plan. The vehicle could become an international model built in such foreign locals as Thailand or India. Most automakers won't even consider building compact trucks for American consumers, so this move makes sense. Well that global market and econ. at work...
I might consider one if!
It had non fugly styling.
I'd be all over some of the internation rangers as far as features.. powertrain. but the
styling is fugly and fubar IMHO.
And if it was built in thailand.. it might be time to check out
some other offerings.. IE what jeep or toyoda has available then.
I'm expecting my truck to last about another 5yr as a DD/2nd vehicle
After which it will probably have 150k miles and be changed to "Dedicated Offroad TOY"
And I may need a tow vehicle instead. With the way gas is.. and my long commute
a 30-40mpg econobox may be in the future.

There's a Nissan plant in central/northern MS.
Don't know if it's still there, but that's besides the point.
They Ranger has been a very good vehicle for the past-- what 20 years? That's longer than some vehicles have lasted. It's like Rome-- It will end one day.
As far as the Ranger being made outside of the US, most cars are. VWs (not that they have anyhting to do with Rangers) parts are produced in Germany, but sent to Mexico to be put together. As is the SVT Focus, which has a little bit more to do with the Ranger.
There will more than likely be a replacement for the Ranger. As long as there is a market for a small truck, Ford will deliver one.

If ford quits making Rangers in the States, I won't buy one. Even if they offered the ' Lightning Bolt '.. if its not made/assembled here.. It doesn't go in my garage.
Time to look into Chevy and Dodge. Its THAT simple for me.
Ford will just loose a whole Family of dedicated consumers from my house.
