Possible fuel pump issue 2008 ranger

I've noticed for a month or so now on occasion when i go to start my truck its cranking over longer. Some times i stop and restart 2 or 3 times and it will finally start up cranking no more than 4-5 seconds at a time. But i have noticed if i cycle the ignition on and off (potentially building fuel pressure) it will then start right up. Also for the passed 2 months my fuel pump seams abnormally loud, a louder whine than it used to. Today i decided to change my fuel filter since it was probably original, having 113k miles, thinking this might help. But just the opposite has happened the starting is getting worse, as ive drove over 100 miles today. Any solutions or suggestions would be great! thanks! Also my truck is a 2008 Ford Ranger Sport 4x4 with the 4.0.

I would start by changing the fuel filter, it is the least expensive and easiest to do. If your problem persists and you have to get a new fuel pump, at least you will be starting with a fresh filter as well.
