Not sure if they also do in the states, but i live in canada, and my 07 ranger came stock with daytime running lights. I just upgraded to 6000K HID setups for my headlights and foglights. I absolutely love the HIDs but have one quick question. When i have my headlights off, normally the daytime running lights would be working. Now i know that drl's work off of a low voltage highbeam senario. With the hids i have no highbeams obviously, which i am fine with, but because off this, with the headlight switch OFF, the hids strobe because the drl's are trying to come on but its too low of a volatege for the ballasts. Easy fix is to disable the daytime running lights. Is there an easy way to do this? If there is how would i go about doing that? Any help would be much apreciated.

 

Not sure how to disable DRL's (we dont have that in the US Rangers) but I do know that it will mess up your Xenon bulbs. I would hook your halogens back up until you figure out how to disable the DRL's.

 

Not to sure if it's in the same spot as the 01's, but knowing how cheap Ford is and their design staff....it probably is.

Look under and behind the front bumper on the drivers side. You'll see a single black relay and a wire harness. Pull that relay off and seal the harness with plastic and some electrical tape.

Just like that, you've disabled your DRL's. No messing around with fuses or under hood relays. It's that easy.

 

I'm STILL looking for this fix on my 04.. I've been trying since last november when i bought my truck.. I just have my ebrake slightly engaged to ward off the whole strobe thing.. Pita..

And i never found the relay that you speak of..

 

The "relay", actually the DRL Module, is no longer used on 2004+ Rangers. The DRL function is now integrated into the Smart Junction Box under the right kick panel.

why dont you wire it to the high beam wire

 

i dont know about ford, but on g.m. products if you have the parking brake on, it disables the D.R.L. since the pedal is almost halfway to the floor before the brakes are set, just have the pedal on the first "click" the soes wont be engaged against the drums and the D.R.L.'s are disabled. only downside is the "brake" light will be on on the dash. like i said, i dont know if this will work in a ford, but it does in a g.m.

 

Also want to watch out with pulling the DRL relay is that on some vehicles, such as a Ford Contour, when you pull out the relay it disables your DRL's, but in turn will make only one of your high beams function when you flip to high beams,so it looks like you have a burnt out bulb. In this case, making a jumper wire and sticking it into the plug and it will fool it into thinking the DRL relay is in place, yet your DRLs will be disabled and both your high beams will work.

On my Cadillac Catera, it had DRL's, yet they were only activated once the car was put into gear. In Park they would be shut off,but in R,N,D,1 or 2 they would be activated.

I beleive on my truck,my relay has gone bad, as my DRLs are currently not working. The relay has failed twice before, one time making the headlights strobe until you turned on the headlights to low beam. Now the DRLs are just non existant and everything else works fine. Plus this way with the DRLs not working, I prefer to drive around in the day time in clear weather with my parking lights on with my fog lights. Most other times, I always drive with my full lights on anyways.

 

That's why I pulled mine. I started to notice that other drivers were slowing down when I came up behind them. A few times people would pull over and then pull back out when I passed. I figured something was up and noticed it while sitting in traffic. In the reflection from the vehicle ahead of me, I seen that my head lights were flashing.

pop the lights off, snip the wires.

 

If the Module has a oval connector plug, remove it and install the block off wire plug. it simply has a single wire jumper to disable the lamps. (corner to corner on the pins?) standard part plugged the wiring loom by the radiator support on American cars.
