ranger 302/t-5

hi my name is rob and im new to this site.i have an 89 ranger that has a 2.3l four banger. i recently purchased a 302 and a t-5 for a hundred bucks.now i kinda have to do sumthing with the ranger since i have this motor. the t-5 is out of a four banger stang, and i dont know if i will have to rebuild for this 302. also i dont know what rear end i have in this truck.its a 2wd five spd, so if anyone has some useable parts and advice it would b appreciated. thanx!!

the T-5 should be alright i would put new clutches in and stuff but you should be alright the stock rear-end is a 7.5 i belive andcan withstand the stock power of a 302 but once you modd it you might wanna upgrade to the mustang 8.8
theres a couple of sites that have the 302 swapp parts and aftermarket support is good as well
but use the search functio and you'll find tons of info on this swap cuz its pretty common
and welcome to the site

I could be wrong but I've heard that the t5 used in the four banger stang had a smaller input shaft and was weaker than it's 5.0 counterpart.

Input shaft is different. You'll either need to find and swap in an input shaft from a V8 T5, or use a bushing/bearing in the crank to make up for the size difference.

Manual trannies don't have clutch's in them like an auto does (bands/clutch's), though I would make sure the synchro's are OK.

You'll also need to find a V8 bell housing for the tranny, the 4 cylinder bell housing will not fit on the 5.0 block.

So, at that point you might as well look for a real v8 T5 and sell off the 4 cylinder T5.
