Ranger vs Jeep

Thinking bout going to the dark side and selling my ranger for a jeep, my trucks given me too many problems to mention as will all vehicles that are abused. The only reason i havent sold it yet is im kinda attached to it, what other reasons should i stick with a ranger over a jeep? Most likely go for a xj (cherokee) or a wrangler if i go through with this

Ranger:
-bed for hauling
-smoother ride
-better for long trips

Jeep:
-better after market support
-better mpg
-easier to fix from my experience
-more passengers

Both:
-can use both for hunting and fishing
-can wheel both
-both 4x4
-neither cheep to fix
-My Dc2s fit both if i dont sell them with truck

Better MPG? Not from what my Jeep owning friends say. More a wash, or slightly favor the Ranger. I think my Ranger rides like garbage, so I don't think a Jeep could ride any worse.

if you go wheeling alot, a jeep owns in that arena. However they suck on the highway, especially if its a bromobile with a lift and 35s. Easy as pie to roll over too, has a short wheelbase and high center of gravity. That being said i still want one for a trail rig.

Im getting 8mpg with my 31x10.5s but i drive it like an indycar and it probly needs regearing, my buddy pulls a trailer and has 33s and gets at least 13-14mpg with a TJ, my ranger rides rough but i ride in yjs almost everyday and a lifted jeep with leaf springs front and back with M/Ts is horrible not to mention its a manual

if you are only getting 8 mpg on your truck there is something seriously wrong with it, and its not the 31s.

i know a lot of the mpg is not the truck, most of the problem is the drivers lead foot but even when im behaving myself i can only get 10 or 11 out of it, i also live in a area thats got a bunch of steep inclines and stoplights, last week i swapped wheels with my buddy(he has a 2000 4x4 ranger) with his street tires the truck felt a lot better, i didnt have to floor it to get up to speed and it was a lot smoother the truck felt healthier but what should i start looking at to get better MPGs?

XJ FTW but you don't want a unibody an plan for it not to last lifted but my buddy hard core wheels his XJ and its BUILT and i mean BUILT and doesn't have issues and gets 18MPG. I've had 2 of them but they have some electrical issues other than that the engine is bullet proof.

That's a bad rig, makes me want to get rid of my ranger even more, I'd obviously not have the money to build anything close being a full time student but it just seems like a better investment than a ranger, my big worry is that I'll sell it then 2 months later see it going down the road on 22s with autozone hood scoops glued on and a coffecan stickin out the back

If I bought a jeep it would for sure be an xj. The unibody is kind of a downside but they look so good with the tailgate chopped and shortened so they have a little utility bed.

I have a 1993 Wrangler 4.0L, manual, on 35s with lockers in front/rear. I also did a spring over axle and put a lot of work into it. I average around 12 - 14 MPG. Here's a pic.

I also wanted to add that if you're into rockcrawling then yes, I'd recommend the Wrangler. I'm not sure if I'd own one if I wasn't into rockcrawling though. Maybe I would, with 3 inches of lift, SUA, and 33s (like my old set-up).

If I had a wrangler I would roll it within 5 minutes. I've always liked xj's but the susp. And lack of frame just seems very crappy to me

I average 17/20 city/highway. All the time. Specs in sig.
The only jeeps I'd consider would be XJ, LJ, MJ (commachie) or PJ.

I used to own a XJ. I prefer my Wrangler over it. The Wrangler feels way more solid than the XJ over rocks.

I love the YJ because it has longer wheel base than the previous models and easier to work on. I hate anything newer than the YJ because it rides like a car with its retarded dash board and air bags. No offense to TJ+ owners.

8 mpg? in a ranger? LOL I get that in my work truck.... a 12,000lb cube van, that has the aerodynamics of a cinder block.
