03 Ranger one of top 10 vehicles recommended for kids

From a telephone survey of 500 people with kids 16-22 years of age who were asked what vehicle they recommended for kids. The 03 Ranger is the 6th vehicle in the list.

Not shocking. Pickups have always been recommended for kids.. at least around here. My mother always used to say they'd be perfect if it weren't for the winter handling issues. Although she stipulated that caps were not permitted.. as that would promote 'extra cirricular' activities! ... I'm not sure what kind of kid she was thinking that would slow down.

it makes sense if the resell value and build quality is better than american brands.

The Honda Civic (Ohio) ** Nissan Altima (Tennesse) ** and Toyota Corolla (Kentucky) are all made in the USA

I WENT TODAY TO LOOK AT A FORD FUSION TO REPLACE MY HONDA ACCORD
IT IS MADE IN HERMOSILLO MEXICO!!!
I WALKED OFF THE LOT
WHAT IS THE POINT IN BUYING AMERICAN IF THEY ARE MADE IN CANADA, MEXICO OR BRAZIL??

Also it is the same comparable price as the Accord (leather, sunroof, V6) and Ford has the nerve to charge extra for ABS
I would rather buy another foreign brand made in the USA so at least the guys on the line have money and a job.
And don't give me the BS about the companies making all the money.
The high powered executive at FORD and CHEVY (I leave out Chrystler since the Germans own them outright now) take home much more than their counterparts at Nissan, Honda or Toyota.
We are being beaten in the world economy - I know I am in international transportation and our trade imbalance is HUGE!!

All of those cars blow *** except for the ranger. Haha, they obviously didn't call the parents who knew ANYTHING about what their *kid* wanted (besides the ranger).

yeah freaking right.

#1 hands down.

i dunno who made that list.

==========================================

and about the first cars.

my mom did us right! i had a 92 explorer 4.0 and my little brother got an f150 5.4L (and lariat!!!)...

for the most part we always buy american. (yes, i know not all parts are made/assembled in america, but american companies)...

my dad has owned some range rovers, but they are a ford company now. porsche is german. chrysler is sort of american. it's supposed to be, at least. bmw is german. merceds, german. so, i guess my dad isn't really loyal to american only. he's about 50/50 american/european as i can tell. i don't think we've ever owned an asian car. once, i think we had a 626, when i was little. mazda is kinda ford. oh wait. we had an isuzu trooper for a little while. and all of our atv's, for the most part, have been kawasaki's. is polaris american?

but my mom is. she's had, i think, a lincoln, jeep, explorer, oldsmobile. stepdad is. he used to have a jeep, then explorer, then 300.

my grandparents only buy lincoln/cadillac.

i think my first kid(if a boy), will have a good old pickup truck. if i have a daughter, i'll put her in whatever is the safest. something with airbags all over, and not too fast. but you have to put your son in something cool, like an early 90s f150 4x4. maybe an old ranger 4x4. at least, i will. something he can take out with his buddies, drive it where he wants to take it. but he'll be responsible for his screw ups. needs to be responsible, at least...

anyway, enough of my rambling.

I couldn't agree more.. The phrase "Made In America" is becomming more and more relative.

Who gives a damn what the kid wants! You're a kid, you take what you get and be frickin' happy w/ it. Parents should choose a vehicle for their kids to drive based on affordability, reliability, and safety. Not based on what is a 'cool' or 'hot' ride..

I am surprised that all the parents asked were able to afford to get those kind of vehicles for their kids.

When I was in High School, you were something special if your car was less than 5 years old and didnt smoke.

My first car was an '82 Diesel Chevette. Most of my friends didnt even have a car.
