rear brake calipers

I have a 2011 Ranger 4x4 with rear discs. On one of the caliper retaining bolts there is an odd knoblike attachment. I have never seen anything like it before, and my Chilton's manual says nothing about it. Need to know how to remove it to replace rear pads. Anybody?
