Rebuilt Auto Transmissions (Transmission Authority or Transmission Depot?
Curious if anyone has any experience with remanufactured transmissions from Transmission Authority (exclusive to RockAuto.com) or from Transmission Depot (transdepot.net)?
I need to do this on the cheap since truck is only worth about $2k on a good day. I refuse to take it apart myself and rebuilt. About 3 months ago I replaced my transmission with one from a junkyard (30 day warranty). Long story short it was a horrible job and I really don't want to it again but I now have to as this one has issues. Local shops are all about $2.5k so I will be doing it myself.
Price wise Transmission Depot is a little bit cheaper, and is advertised as having a 2 year warranty. However their warranty requires proof of servicing every 6 months so they don't really offer a warranty for us DIYers. RockAuto advertises a 3 year warranty but I discovered that they technically don't have to honor it unless it is installed by a licensed transmission shop. Again, it is like no warranty after the first few days. So I'd like to know from anyone with actual experience with both of these rebuilt transmissions.
Oh, the truck is only work about $2000 and I only plan to keep it another couple years and saving to upgrade to an F150 or F250. Selling it with the current transmission issue is probably not something I'll consider.
