They wouldn't allow it in 03. I ordered exactly what this thread was about, went to pick it up and it was the truck I have now. They made a stick, SOHC and a L/S from the factory.. but they sapped me with 300lbs of extra cab weight!
I believe a LOT of the problem is with GVW and Certian state laws. In NYS, tyrucks without rear seats or capacity in the cab recieve ' commercial ' type plates. They have mandated a minimum weight of 3200lbs. My truck in its present form ( after having a lot taken off/lightened/modified ) is at 3300lbs. If I had a reg-cab, I would be somewhere around 3000-3050lbs.
As Mr. Griggs stated " 3. Ford decided too much power in the standard cab was a lawsuit waiting to happen. ". I bet the truck in question with a pair of slicks could break into the 14's untouched/modified.
