22 shouldn't hurt that thing at all. Mine wouldn't start here the other morning at -20... but 22 it starts like a champ.

Does the starter actually have trouble turning over? Or is it more that it takes like 3 or 4 tries of the starter before it catches?

If the latter, I'd say put some SeaFoam in your tank and see if it gets any better. Might have some moisture in the fuel lines that is hardening up.

You shouldnt have a problem with it starting at 20* but if you are you may want to look for a new battery. Mine was fine till it hit about 15* then it didnt want to turn over so I replaced it, the old one showed 12.4 but didnt have the CCA to start it any more. The new battery starts it fine at -20* so now its good to go.

Down into the 20s? lol
I guess that is cold for down there. Been into the singles at night here, but I've lived where it gets much colder! The truck should start just fine unless the battery is bad.

Yeah I was about to mention the CCA of the battery, the higher the CCA the better it will turn over in cold weather... I have a 500 or so CCA and it turns over fine in 0 degree weather, But I'm getting an 800CCA Optima to help when its gets really cold.

If your having trouble I would check the CCA of the battery not just the start of charge. And if you still need help go with a higher CCA battery, if it still has a hard time starting you may have something wrong. You can always get a blockheater too...

I had a 99 Ranger that came with a block heater...Went to change the oil for the first time and noticed this plug hanging down and had a WTF moment...I'm from the south, so I didn’t even think about it being a block heater at first. I have no idea why a truck sold in the south would have one but this one did...It was a 99 Ranger Ext Cab 4x4 with the 3.slow(The truck was purchased new at a Ford dealer in Atlanta, so it wasnt a truck from up north). It kinda surprises me that you guys up north do not have them, I would think it would be standard on trucks destined to be sold in your location.

unless your battery is junk, is should start just fine. it may take a couple extra cranks to do it but ive never had any cold startting issues here in michigan, even with the crap battery i have in my ranger. it was 1 degree here the other morning ha ha but thats not abnormal for michigan

lol at 22 being cold.

it was -1 here and the guys from MN have it bad! I feel bad for you guys.

I wouldnt worry about it either unless your battery is dieing, which that will leave you stranded no matter the temp.

22 is cold considering we rarely get below freezing here and our winter lasts a whole 2 months if that. We were in the 60s through Nov and Dec had a few cold days but mostly upper 50s.

Teen lows is really wierd for 4-5 days around here. So yea it's coooolllldddd.
