RIP Ranger 5/5/12 (Kind of pic heavy)

Unfortunately, you have to prepare yourself in the event that you will be losing a friend in this. But when you look at the other side of the coin, do you really want someone like that as a friend?
If he can make it as easy for you as possible through this whole process, then he might be worth it to try and salvage the friendship... otherwise, say your goodbyes and move on with your life.

I don't see how you guys think they were going faster then 35mph...Going from 35mph to a dead stop is an amazing amount of force. HUGE! Not only that but it wasn't compleat head on which probably helped them not have as much injuries as they did. Here is a crash test of a truck at 35mph...
Then this is of a ranger at 40mph...
^^^ That looks much worse than his truck. So I'd say about 30-35 is about spot on. Just my opinion though. Still really glad you guys came out so well.

You can post videos of controlled crash tests all day long,
That won't mean anything unless its a video of the exact thing that happened to the truck.
I can tell you this, The bags deployed, The core support moved back about 8-10" and the frame is tweaked.
It takes a lot of force to tweak the frame, if i were to bend it back with a frame machine, It would take around 2.5 to 3 tons of force to move it.
I'd say he was going faster than 35.

I agree that a friendship is much more than just one truck... but in cases like this, it shows one person what the other person is really like.
I had a coworker and we became close friends. We'd hang out, ride our bikes around for hours, etc. One day, he asked me if he could borrow $250 to help pay his rent that month since he was a little short due to some repairs at the house. Since he was a friend and it was for a good cause (he is married with 2 kids), I had no problems.
After two years and many promises, I'm still short $250 and one friend. The way I see it, it was worth losing the $250 to find out what a person is made of. And I never really worried about the $250 considering it was play money anyway.

Here are some picks of my last ranger that was in a wreck. Note that by the time of impact I was probably going about 10mph or so according to the reconstructionist. It went into the side of a pathfinder (which is not a dead stop). I pushed the suv and it also absorbed the energy. My core support moved back a few inches as well. It did not bend the frame as I was only going 10mph or so into the suv and as I said it absorbed quite a bit and I pushed her suv a few feet down the road. The wreck was not a dead stop wreck. It also broke one of my motor mounts and bent another. (motor moved.) As well as a few other things. And yes the airbag went off. Gezzz if it didn't I'd question that truck. lol Here are the pics...
What it looked like. :-)
What it ended up being... :-(
Then what hers ended up looking like.
Basically what I'm getting at is I don't think he was going faster than 35.
If mine looks like that at 10mph hitting something that moved + absorbed the energy then I'm sure going 35 to a dead stop would look like his truck. Any faster I'm sure they would be in much worse shape. But hey, I'm not a accident reconstructionist so I can't really say anything. That's just my opinion. :-/
