SAS Dreams Help!
talk me out of it.
i keep looking at my truck and think of sas.
i don't want to do a super high sas or anything, just something to run a little larger tire and have more clearance.
plus with a sfa way better than the IFS.
whats average cost of a junkyard run sas project? something simple not running huge tires or mega power on it.

If you can do all the work your self it can be as low as a few thousand dollars. I got my axle for $250. I had it rebuilt, but it didn't need it so that can be extra $$. Then you need steering box, leafs or coils, tires, wheels, gears (front and rear), new front driveshaft. That is just the big stuff. All the little crap adds up. Then some new suspension for the rear. Go for it if you want. I've had quite a few people approach me about my truck. Most ask what kind of lift and all so far have guessed a 6" lift. My frame sits around 22" (under cab). It was around 24"-25", but my brand new front and rear leafs have been used hard and settled quite a bit.

anyways, like said above, it really does depend on what kinda deals you can find. Personally if i were you, take it the way i took it....spread it out...shop till you find the best-ish deals you can find. That way you can take that time to really plan out how your going to go about it and ur not breaking the bank all at once.
i dont think anyone here is gunna talk you out of it

3-5k??!! NO WAY! a basic SAS can be done for cheap... get and dana 30 for the front with 4.10s (200-300).. hopefully you have 4.10s in the rear.. a set of leaves from a yard (50-100). some steel to make crossmembers (50).. get a front shaft from an older expo or ranger with the dual joints (50) and a lincoln 220 stick welder (120).. then get a toyota steering box (100).. swap that **** in, and then do your steering... run the wheels and tires you have now and keep the 4.10s.. if you wanna upgrade later you can.. but its really simple.. that was only 500-600 bucks without steering that i just added up.

alot of it gonna depend on availability, and if you want to do less in the futre.... dana 3-'s are a good start and retain alot of the same things like bolt patten and general width. if you choose to link it using the jeep stuff, it will be more in depth and time consuming dialing in the geometry. leaves will be cheaper and easeir but limiting as well, but for your needs and many others, it is a great way to go.
razorsedge and outdoorsman both have good write ups/project logs for both set ups. both of 35's but both differnt in many ways. however, both spent money wisely and had great builds. i would flip through those and see if its somthing you are up for.
