Do they make foam filters for are trucks?

I am not talking about Kand N type foam I am talking in the pic below type of foam. I know in the quad world this is the best kind of protection you can get. and its really really easy to clean.

Wash out with dish soap and water
Rinse and let dry

Oil and done.

Now my question is......are they any good? Foam is good in the quad world but there are some companies to stay away fromtoo.

 

i would think they would be good till you go offroad...seems like water and grit could easily make it's way up through the crevises in the foam....whereas paper will absorb a good amount

 

Atleast in the quad world paper falls apart in water. I do not do much hard offroading so I do not have to worry about water.

 

Josh, Amsoil has about the best filters you can get. Not only for air flow but for filtering too.

As for those type of filters they would do pretty good off roading i would think as it will hold the water and not fall apart like a paper filter.

 

yeah, foam will stand up to water better than paper, but foam will pass more water when you add suction to it...

paper has absorbency, foam doesn't....that's the only point i'm trying to make...

but Josh said that he doesn't offroad much so that's really not going to apply to him....

but i do agree with Zach about Amsoil....granted i've never used them myself, but word around the block for years has been that Amsoil has quality products....

 

I used to run a K&N drop in filter, I was wheeling and sunk the truck the engine died, fired it back up and it ran ok but every time i hammered on it it would die.

come to find out the air box had 2~3" of water in it and when i would hammer on it it would suck the water up to the filter and would starve the engine of air...

if i had a paper filter there it would have tore and i would have sucked a bunch of water and filter into the engine. so a foam filter saved my engine. since it has oil in it its going to retract water not let it go by.

 

years back i had repaired forklifts and they had a foam cover to go over the paper air filters for added protection under extreme dust conditions you could get a light foam sheet from a fabric store and fashion a piece that you could glue to the rubber seal on the stock air filter that would work too

 

I have run K&N in my truck (got rid of it) and it did have a problem shedding oil into the intake.

Got an Amsoil foam replacement and it was oiled foam and it shed no oil at all that I could see. But I got tired of the very messy clean up even though it wasn't that often.

I've now gone to microfiber (or nanofiber, not sure, lol) air filters by Amsoil (others make them) and it seems to be the best. Good flow, excellent cleaning, and easier cleanup.

When you oil a foam filter ussually the oil is water repelant. Its acually really hard to get water inside. I use it on all my quads so a foam filter would be great for me cuz I already have all the supplie at hand.

I wasn't aware AMS oil made a foam filter

 

I don't think they do any longer. They discontinued it I THINK when they went to the new microfiber ones.

There might be a few available somewhere though.
